Video: New BMW 3-Series folding roof in action

10/24/2006, 3:22 PM

By admin

Yesterday, we brought you the first images and details on the 2007 BMW 3-Series convertible, which will go on sale early next year. The car marks a world first the German automaker, with its three-piece electronically-operated retractable hard-top.

The roof can be raised or lowered via the car’s remote, with the whole process taking around 20 seconds. The hardtop design provides a much larger rear window than a traditional canvas-top convertible, while still maintaining a reasonable amount of storage space of luggage.

After the jump, you’ll find a video of the car’s roof being operated, plus some driving footage of the new 335i cabriolet…

3 series vert looks really beautiful. Now, why the heck didn’t they come out with it 2 years ago when I bought my 6er vert? The money I could have saved could have bought me a decent Scion for small trips, and some monster mods on the 3. :)

The folding roof mechanism seems surprisingly simple, but at the same time fragile. Hopefully, it has durability.

Probably the best-looking of all the retractible 4-seaters with the top up or down. I wanted a C70, but now I’ll consider a 328i cabrio.

Looks nice, the hardtop works pretty smoothly, some of them are so jerky its funny.

I wonder what the classified for this guys job looked like “Looking for a person to load empty luggage into a car and pretend to go somewhere, good pay.” lol

I simply MUST have one. What an awesome roof!!! puts that 2-piece pile of crap on top of the Pontiac G6 and Cadillac XLR to shame.

That house was hella wild also. I want the house too

Nice, but the drop-top action is kinda Volvo C70. It’s not bad, but it’s just in keeping with Bimmer’s continual drop in the “wow” factor of recent models. Others are catching up.

To be correct,We reserved an order spot as nobody seems too sure when they are coming to Canada. My wifes X3 lease is up in March,so that is a big factor for us.
