Video: “Now that’s what I call a rental car”

05/11/2006, 2:05 PM

By admin

Ford, Shelby Autos, and Hertz have realized a new commercial for their Shelby Mustang GT-H Mustang — a car designed specifically for Hertz to rent to customers. The commercial — which may or may not make it to TV — shows Mr. Carroll Shelby driving the GT-H through a Hertz parking lot. After burning lots of rubber and showcasing his driving trickery, the 83-year-old racing driver and declares, “Now that’s what I call a rental car.” The Leftlane Perspective: Insurance companies will love this one. Video after the jump…

Oh great. That’s just what we need. More irresponsible advertising promoting stupid behavior. File this under poor judgement.

American ‘muscle car’ drivers are smarter than that. It’s not all about borg-drone-kill-some-pedestrians street racing mentality. It’s more about powerful independence. Kind of like Steve McQueen, I guess.

I was witness to a father and his young daughter slaughtered by a street racing idiot in my neighborhood. Care to re-think your drink regarding assuming statements such as yours?

My guess, my friend, is those people were killed with a rice-burner. Can you clarify?

Fleet sales would count as real if you are offered an imaginary car for real dollars the next time you rent. :)

I guess this as good a place as any to voice my opinion. I get so tired of having to share the road with weak cars and even weaker drivers. They’re all alseep at the wheel or dazed and confused. I want performance so that I can go around all those zombies who seem to accept that their lot in life is to haul the kids and the groceries around with the depressing drone of an engine that has barely ventured past idle. I go around because if someone is going to do something stupid, I want to happen behind me, not in front. Also consider that if you are faster than most cars on the road your required field of focus is reduced to what’s in front of you so it’s actually safer. I DO NOT street race. Call it offensive, aggressive, whatever – I have places to go, things to do, and a drive to enjoy – and I do it because I can!

People who believe all this “An Advert made me run over someone” or “Doom made me shoot a school” should focus on the mentality of the individual… If Doom was to blame for a shooting, why aren’t there thousands more deaths with the same blame?

I watched The Fast and the Furious. I didn’t crash my car into a train at a level crossing, or put men riding rockets on the side of my car.

I watched Total Recall, I didn’t believe women come in RS Models where they have 3 tits ffs…

Lastly, I used to watch Knight Rider… Never have I grown an afro and Never have I pressed a button on my dashboard hoping to jump over traffic.

JohnnyBlazE,
I’m with you Kitt! Now, I’ll order up Kitt to the front of the building on my watch, and drive away (in my black leather jacket!) at 300mph, while jumping over other, lesser, cars.

Oh yeah, and what BAMF said.

if someone actually did that to a rental car, they’d probably have to fork out thousands of dollars to pay for damages to the gearbox…stupid false advertising… you can’t do that to a rental car…

The advertisement is geared to promote automotive interest. It is not, in my opinion, promoting irresponsibility’s. I need these to help get the “at risk” population into doing something honorable. See my web site for details at http://www.map-n.org/
