General Motors has released a series of new videos of its new Holden VE Commodore, which was unveiled over the weekend (see full report). yes, we know the cars LOOKS good, holden… now how does it sound? in none of these videos can i hear one of these cars just take off and accelerate to full throttle… i want to hear how that v8 roars!
and jd this IS going to be the basis of the camaro…

I heard some V8 rumble on that blue one. I liked the lack of body roll.

The MFP in Mad Max would totally roll in these babies.

I went to look at the cars at http://www.holden.com.au and the Commodore and Calais Berlina both look curiously dated, a little like the Altima that is about to be replaced. I hope Pontiac restyles them before releasing a new Grand Prix or they may end up with another GTO debacle on their hands

This is an example of why I like retro style, I’m only 19 and I have never seen most 50’s 60′ etc cars in the flesh; it’s not retro to me and they are not retro to people from my generation who are bored of stodgy, conservative Euro boxes and Japanese sedans. The modern design establishment has nothing good to offer, the cars are either boring or ugly, (ex. BMW, Toyota, Volkswagen and pre 2006/7 GM cars.

There is no ‘roar’ from a Holden. Im an aussie and I see commonwhores everywhere. Its more of a high pitched deep whooshing sound, not a roar.

This is frankly a really dissapointing car. After so much money invested the best they can up with has the lights and styling of other models, plus added weight and absolutely terrible gaudy interiors for the SS and ‘performance’ (if you can call a 6 litre V8 only producing 368hp performance) models.

If you want to see where they have taken the designs from, google image search the following:

Pitiful, Holden, just pitiful.

Front looks like a Falcon? Please, bar the lights (which are more of an evolution of the current existing VZ lights), nothing else looks like a Falcon from the front. The rear you say? Look at the Torana Concept from 2004, and you’ll notice the similarities between the two.

The reason why it has increased weight is because it’s bigger and has more equipment than the departing Commodore. You can’t avoid that happening, unless you resort to using more exotic materials, in which case, the price will increase and hence, people like you will whinge about the increase. Typical.

I, personally, like the car. It’s a nice, clean, competent evolution from the current car. Sure, it’s not radical or revolutionary, but what Australian cars are? The fact is, with such a high-volume vehicle such as the Commodore, car manufacturers simply cannot take the risk in designing a car that is radical. Ford Australia took the risk with the AU Falcon, and see how successful that was? Point proven.

Yes, a more revolutionary styled vehicle would’ve been more my style and I know a lot of car enthusiasts have lashed out at Holden for this, but in the end, car enthusiasts make up – what – maybe 10% of the population? The other 90% wanted this. And Holden delivered. Good on ‘em.

The design is not super exciting, but I don’t think it’s boring. It’s muscly without being outrageous. An adult, fast RWD sedan. It’s definitely more modern than the old, rounded Commodore. I think it would make a good Chevy, but we just got a new FWD Impala, so that won’t be up for renewal for years. The Grand Prix replacement talk seems the most valid since Pontiac wants RWD and the Grand Prix is several years old now. Let’s just hope Pontiac doesn’t price it too high, gives us 3.6L and 6.0L options, leather or cloth seats, along with manual and auto transmissions.

Anybody know of another link for the videos? Youtube says all but the last one are no longer available.
