A French company called Vintech has traveled to the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance to reveal its latest creation, a retro-styled sports car dubbed P550 Tribute that was designed as a homage to the iconic Porsche 550 of the 1950s.

At first glance the P550 Tribute appears to be only a vague interpretation of the Porsche 550 Spyder that James Dean famously died in. However, when compared to the much rarer 550 Coupe, the P550's design cues immediately fall into place and its true inspiration becomes clear.

From the shape of the windshield to the fastback-like rear end, the P550 is a modern interpretation of Porsche's race-winning coupe. The only exception is that the P550 is fitted with gullwing-style doors, a feature that was not found on the car it draws inspiration from.

The retro ambiance continues on the inside where three large gauges are mounted behind a wood rim steering wheel. The rest of the dashboard appears to be bare save for a couple of switches and a grab handle; there are no air vents, no touch screen and nowhere to set down a Big Gulp.

The P550 Tribute is powered by a 3.0-liter air-cooled flat-four engine that is mounted directly behind the passenger cabin. Fed with two double-barrel downdraft carburetors, it sends 270 horsepower to the rear set of wheels via a manual transmission.

Performance figures were not released but Vintech hopes that the P550 Tribute will weigh no more than 1,200 pounds, giving the coupe a favorable power-to-weight ratio.

Pricing information is currently unknown but a full set of details will be available over the weekend.
