Joseph, A4 isn’t cheerleading for VW (at first at least), he was just recognizing the fact that Pischetsrieder was CEO of VAG — not just of the cars you see on the road badged “Volkswagen.”
The cars themselves have nothing to do with this. Pischetsrieder and VAG in general have been facing all kinds of criminal/curroption allegations.

Chill man… the Si is a definite abomination from Honda so it’ll never beat the GTI in the press. But I must disagree on the refinement and interior as the quality of both cars are very similar. In fact, I was a bit disappointed with the GTI’s material quality, but heck can’t expect much from a car below $30K. Having said that, I’ll take the GTI over the Si anytime.

actually the GTI beat the Si
it was faster in a straight line, offered more refinement, and better transmissions, not to mention a class leading interior, xenon HID’s standard, and german engineering.

C&D gave the GTI 1st and it deserved it
the SI is great but doesnt cut it.

A4 if I remember correctly in some mag they pit the GTI against the Si with the Si being the victor in terms of performance. Sure the GTI has more flair and ego boost and I’ll still take it over the Civic but losing still sucks.

Jimbo….not sure what you’re tring to say here, but don’t make me get out all of the tests that Honda/Toyota have won in Motor Trend, C/D, R&T….etc. as well as in other vehicle segments. Also, notice that “Detroit” is missing from this list. Too bad, but proabably a good idea to leave them out because I’d hate to see them last in this test just like I’ve seen in all the others….I feel sorry for them.

My point was simply……this doesn’t look like good news to me. I usually try to keep with the subject here, but A4’s nonsense prompted this. Unlike A4, I’m not out to preach about my favorite vehicles on every posting. I have my preferences, but I appreciate all well made vehicles….no matter where it’s from.

I wouldn’t consider this to be “positive” news for a company….especially when it’s not clear why he resigned when they gave him an extension until 2012.

A4…..where do you get your information? Did you actually walk around and count the number of VWs, Hondas, and Toyotas from SEMA??? Also, I’m sure what’s at SEMA is a VERY CLEAR indication of the financial status of the automotive industry.

this guy was head of VAG – the whole company – rather than the VW car division, so the cars don’t really have anything to do with this.
The Chairman of VAG, Piech, and his family are the major shareholder in Porsche and have used Porsche to buy a big chunk of VAG. The new ceo is his guy so this is more likely to do with corporate politics

oh yeah the scirocco isnt bringing anything to the table, neither is the R32 or the introduction of a new Golf, Jetta, and passat, along with the Eos, and the 2008 lineup of TDI’s. Not to mention the overwhelming acceptance of the new GTI from the tuning community, especially in comparison to the MK4.. ive seen more modified GTI’s being promoted from SEMA than any honda, toyota (haha), or anything for that matter.
