Volkswagen debuts Passat CC Gold Coast Edition

08/19/2008, 10:06 AM

By Andrew Ganz

Volkswagen unveiled a special edition of its new Passat CC sedan last weekend at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Dubbed the Gold Coast Edition, this special edition Passat CC will include a number of unique features when it arrives in showrooms later this year.

A unique body kit, “Pepe Pepper” paint by DuPont (a mix of gold, brown and silver tones), 19 inch wheels and a “Latte Macchiato” and “Cornsilk” (VW’s names) interior leather scheme set the Gold Coast Edition apart from other Passat CCs. Though no word was available on pricing, the CC is expected to be the top model on offer initially. The Passat CC starts under $27,000 and the Gold Coast Edition will feature a 3.6-liter TFSI six-cylinder engine and VW’s DSG transmission.

This looks more than a VW—it looks like a Mercedes! Wow! VW has come a very long way. Sure to be a major hit here in the States.

Yea, this thing looks great.. But in typical VW fashion, this would be way overpriced.. with all these options and the navigation I won’t be surprise if this thing will be close to tipping the scale at the 50K mark.. btw, you can still argue that this thing is a savings compared to how much they priced the VW Phaeton.. remember that thing..

i think its a great move, starting the passat cc under 27 but making it a bit nicer than the regular passat… especially since they are killing off the current passat to make it smaller and cheaper to compete with the camry, accord ..ect

Is it named after Australia’s famous stretch of sand and surf by any chance? Anyhow, the car looks bloody fantastic – love the wheels especially. Does the 3.6-litre TFSI make more power than the R36?

Looks heavy handed. This isnt VW to me at all. This isnt what they are good at. They shouldve of just stuck to revising their Bauhaus theme.

Gotta love that German flair. This thing is as beatiful (if not more) than the MB it copies. And for half the price!

Typical VW…nice lines but littered with mass amounts of plastic and rubber inside and out. Bound to be a rattle trap like all other VW’s after a couple years of driving it.

Nice. This will bring in the masses. If VW can keep the price at around 35k well optioned they should have a real winner.

Now THAT’S how you polish a turd! Good work, VW. Please call Bob Lutz and show him how to do the same.

If this fully loaded edition came in at about $31k they’d have a hit, but it’s a lot more likely it’ll be over $40k in which case VW will be back at the drawing board in about 8 weeks wondering why Americans don’t like their “people’s cars.”

Looks like Buick meets Mercedes-Benz. Might be the color though. Not a bad look at all. Better looking than VWs of previous years.

Rue the day when VW works its way into MB and BMW territory.

I love the design, the color too. In a sea of silver, gray and black this is a nice change for those that want something different..
I’d say this one will hit 40K as shown. Never owned a VW, but I have heard repairs and maint. are high. However, I think VW is going to 3yr 36k everything included for 09?
