Volkswagen will unveil a new concept car called the Iroc at the Paris Motor Show in September, according to German media reports. The car is believed to be a preview of the forthcoming 2008/2009 Scirocco coupe (sc-IROC-co). While the Paris show doesn’t take place until the end of September, Volkswagen is expected to show the Iroc on August 24th. Stay tuned to Leftlane for that unveiling, and indeed any leaks that may precede it.

IROC (Internation Race of Champions) was orignaly run with Porsche 911s if i remember correctly. could be totaly off. If this thing looks good it may be my next car!

#6 –ss- you are correct. The initial IROCs were 911s. In fact they were the legendary RSR models. I was refering to the Camaros of the late 80’s
The first IROC Champion was the late Mark Donohue, easily one othe greatest and coolest drivers of all time.
He lived in the next town over from me. He could drive anything.

The camaro was the only one to license the name out and brand a model with it, much like Trans AM everyone that bought a model part of the revenue whent to IROC, or Trans AM. Yes Many cars have been in the IROC race but none were called IROC ecept for the Camaro. They may want to re-think the name even if you youself like it because im sure their will be copyright questions by the race promotor unless that all been solved allready.

Incorrect — Chevy lost the license to use it, hence the early 90’s Dodge Daytona IROC-Z coupes.
“iroc” in this case is obviously taken from scIROCco, but does VW know how ridiculous it sounds to Americans remembering the ultimate ’80s bling car?
Anyone that drives a post ‘68 camaro should really be round up and shot.

Surprised no one has noticed this yet the IROC is not a take on any existing name, rather a snippet part of the name ScIROCco - the car which this new one is being bought out as a modernised version of.
I’m going to the launch on the 24th as a guest of someone who got an invite from VW.. rather looking forward to it
The IROC never has been a car, it was a Comaro IROC-Z
