Volkswagen is considering building a third upscale model to join the Phaeton and Touareg at the top of the company’s model line. The vehicle will be positioned against the Mercedes-Benz R-Class , according to a report by Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport. The car will be lower and sportier than the R-Class, the magazine said. It’s not clear if the vehicle is related to the minivan project announced in January by Volkswagen and Daimler Chrysler .
