obviously most people here haven’t seen some of the local chinese cars at auto china. for example “great wall” relveled 3 cars, one is a carbon copy of the scion xa, the other of the scion xb, and the third a nissan tone–and trust me they are not simply chines built versions of these cars, they are supposed to be original designs. other “new” chinese cars include a smart clone and an X5 clone.

if you think this looks like an R-class or Q7, well then you won’t be able to tell the chinese clones from the original cars. clearly a car designed in china, a country where creativity does not exist.

Some is bad; some is good, all together confusing
1. Ornamental front license plate
2. Rearview mirror has three panes
3. Chrome strip down the side that extends from the headlights to the back door.
4. Ridiculous completely phony looking honeycomb below the front bumper
5. No ‘white’ reverse lights
6. Is that some sort of flame tread pattern on the tires?
7. Gaudy, over complicated and hard to clean wheels

Maybe this is the long awaited replacement for the ancient VW Santana which is still produced in China. If it looks this weird, I doubt it is catered for western VW markets.

For all you folks ragging on VW for the styling of this concept car, remember; China is a VERY different place than the U.S., and they likely have very different automotive tastes. For all we know, the Chinese LOVE this thing, in which case VW would have to be commended for doing its market research.

Having said that, I agree that it would never fly in this country. To me, it looks like it’s jacked on its suspension up to make room for AWD hardware, just like the AMC Eagle 4WD’s used to be in the ’80′s.

What they didn’t tell you in the article is then when VW unveiled this, the people at the auto show broke out in a combination of laughter and vomit, in both shock and horror at what they were looking at.

Horrible.. does EVERY VW concept now have to have the same rear roofline? First the scIROCco concept looks like a squashed GTI, now this ebeNEEZAr wants to be a squashed Q7! I agree with everyone else that the tailgate-taillight treatment is a blatantly obvious Audi ripoff.. illustrating once again VAG’s utter inability to develop unique styling elements for the two brands. Why can they differentiate cheaper SEAT and Skoda vehicles better than their more upscale brands? It would seem that the more expensive the car, the more important it is to be distinctive.

I would bet good money it’s designed by VW China.

Regardless, I find it interesting that in both this car and the US-spec Rabbit they’ve avoided the gigantic chrome grille. Maybe somebody smacked some sense into VW?

Im tired of these companies and their “sedan coupes” & “crossover coupes”. It’s getting ugly, annoying, & harder to find vehicles when shopping for them because they keep effin’ up the way their supposed to be classified.
BTW, this crap is ugly. Looks like a Q7, Passat, & an EOS smushed together. Good thing this is only a concept.
