Volkswagen is no stranger to unusual car names. Just take the Tiguan, for example — a fusion of the words “tiger” and “iguana.” Today, the automaker officially announced its new will be called “Routan” and will debut at the Chicago Auto Show in three weeks.
“Routan” contains both the English word “route” as well as the “-an” suffix which is appended to the names of Volkswagen ’s European vans – Touran and Sharan.
The van is a joint project between Chrysler and VW, first announced over two years ago. The vehicle has been designed with the U.S. market in mind, and will feature distinctive Volkswagen styling, the company says.
The Routan will debut during the press days at the Chicago Auto Show (February 6 to 7, 2008).
