Volkswagen Tiguan in showrooms Fall 2007

12/05/2006, 8:40 AM

By admin

The Volkswagen Tiguan was only unveiled in concept form last week, but a production model will arrive in showrooms in less than a year, VW spokesman Steve Keyes told Automotive News. A gasoline version will arrive in fall 2007, while a diesel model will go on sale even later in the year.

Like the Tiguan concept, the production crossover will make use of a Bluetec diesel engine, developed in cooperation with Mercedes. The Tiguan will be the only small SUV offered with a diesel engine in the United States.

To get the Tiguan from concept to production in so short a time, VW has been scouring the junkyards of America for 1996 Pontiac Grand Am dashboards to fill the artistic void they left in front of the pitiful driver. I don’t get their dash design on this at all – the outside is great. Maybe when you see it live it does not appear to be the total piece of **** it is in pictures.

So VW Golf Pluses use 1996 Pontiac Grand Am dashes? Typisch VW – unzuverlässige Autos ohne Kreativität von deutschen Wichser.

Bring on the diesels! How much will one of these go for? I hope VW doesn’t price themselves into an overly expensive corner on this as they have countless times in the past.

my guess is a basemodel ill start around 23k loaded will be less than 30k. Ford Edge, Rav4, CRV…here comes VW. whats the MPG on the bluetec? i would imagine high 30s low 40s in this.

I have a diesel Suburban, and although it gets 33% better fuel economy than a gas version, diesel fuel is MUCH more expensive than gas right now. I’m paying $2.80 a gallon for diesel. Premium gas seems cheap by comparison. You just can’t win.

YourNameHere, why would you guess that on price? No other VW model undercuts its price competition from Ford, Toyota, or Honda. In fact they are generally overpriced, particularly when you equip the models similarly. If I had to guess based on history, thing thing will start in the mid to high 20s with nothing but power windows, and will end up in the high 30s with all the ****, much like the Passat.

If the Tiguan is based on the current Golf 5 platform, which VW has acknowledged to be “too expensive to produce” what will happen in 2008 when the new Golf 6 comes out (at least in Europe)?
