We Americans love to have our cake and eat it too. We want large vehicles, but we’ve also got a newfound fascination with fuel efficiency. Volkswagen seems aware of this fact — Enter the Tiguan XXL. Based on the small and efficient Tiguan, the XXL will essentially be a stretched version of the crossover with a seven-seat capacity.
According to sources in Germany, the vehicle will get VW’s new corporate face (as seen on the Scirocco), and it might get a distinct nameplate. The third row of seating will be accommodated by a longer wheelbase and a longer rear-overhang.
The XXL is expected to arrive in two or three years, making it a 2011 or 2012 model. Designed specifically for the U.S. market it will, not surprisingly, be priced between the Tiguan and the Touareg.
