Volkswagen has lifted the veil off of the Touareg Edition X, a limited-edition model that was designed to celebrate the SUV's tenth anniversary.  Packed to the brim with premium equipment, the range-topping trim level will only be offered in its home country of Germany.

The Touareg Edition X is equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights and blacked out tail lamps.  Tinted windows, a panoramic sunroof and Volkswagen's "Chrome and Style" package help give the off-roader an upmarket look.

The treatment continues on the inside with seats upholstered in brown Nappa leather and real wood trim on the dashboard and on the doors.  Running boards that illuminate when the front doors are opened finish off the look.

Buyers can order the Edition X with five engine and gearbox combinations, including a hybrid version that is powered by a 3.0-liter TFSI V6.  In Germany, the Touareg Edition X carries a base price of €62,700 (roughly $81,400) when it is equipped with a diesel-burning V6 engine, marking a €10,800 (about $14,000) premium over a base-model Touareg equipped with the same engine.

At the time of writing Volkswagen does not plan on offering the upscale trim level in the United States.
