Volkswagen unveils Scirocco Studie R in Bologna

12/03/2008, 9:34 AM

By Andrew Ganz

Volkswagen took the stage with a Scirocco design study earlier today in Bologna, Italy, for the Bologna Motor Show. The Studie R, inspired by the Scirocco GT24 race car which won its class at the Nürburgring 24-Hour race earlier this year, features an upgraded four-cylinder engine and Italian-themed design touches.

Underhood, the Scirocco Studie R features a 2.0 liter four-cylinder with a small power upgrade and dual exhaust pipes. A lowered and tightened suspension, four-piston brake calipers and 19-inch alloy wheels round out the functional upgrades.

Outside, the Studie R gets red, white and green details – in honor of Italy – and a Bologna ‘08 badge. A custom front splitter and large rear wing also give it a unique look.

The upgrades continue inside with black and white nappa leather, carbon fiber trim and red, white and green accents.

A riced out VW… OK. It still looks better than an Evo or STi.

VW’s do look great. The problem is that they not as reliable as japs. Perhaps it is not an issue in this market segment.

I like it, it’s not as cartoony as the current VW line up such as the GTI/Rabbit and the GLI/Jetta
