Laying claim to being an environmentally responsible company takes more than simply producing products that are energy-efficient in their own right, it all starts back at the factory where the products themselves get their start.
At Volkswagen, that is no secret, which is part of the reason why VW has just announced that it will be further increasing its investment in renewable energies by about $1.45 billion, according to Reuters.
Previously, VW had indicated just a few months ago that it would invest $867 million into renewable energy in the mid-term, but now the automaker has made it public that it is interested in purchasing at least two offshore windparks from a windpark developer named Windreich.
This wouldn’t be VW’s first foray into wind power as the automaker already pulls some energy from a municipal in the German city of Emden, which is responsible for European Passat production.
VW has set a corporate goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at its production facilities by 40 percent over the next decade.
