Volkswagen has made it perfectly clear that they desire to be the world’s top volume automaker, so much so in fact, they decided to de-content their latest Jetta in order to bring it to market at a lower price than even some of the American competitors.

We’ve all seen the handful of VW ads that show a prospective Jetta owner working multiple jobs in order to save up for the new Jetta, only to find out that the base price was $15,995. Not anymore, Volkswagen quietly upped the base price for the entry-level Jetta by $500 to $16,495, as first pointed out by AskASalesGuy.

When VW made the change they simply tweaked their online configurator, but failed to make any announcement or issue any press release on the changes.

The good news? The change only raises the price for the base S trim level, while higher trim levels retain their pricing.
