Volkswagon's Marketing Department thinks far too narrowly. I am happy that the Volkswagon Rabbit is coming back, however, they also need to make the Rabbit Pickup as well, if they bring one back (sedan) then they really ought to be consistant and bring the other one back too (pickup). Volkswagon would sell the abyss out of the Rabbit Pickup if they brought it back BECAUSE they would be the ONLY act in town selling a small diesel here in the USA.

Besides that, more and more people are seeing the fantastic use and convenience of having a pickup truck, but, they have NO NEED for a full size, they want something with fuel mileage so the small Rabbit Diesel Pickup, if it was produced, would sell like Hotcakes, no doubt in my mind.

I wrote to Volkswagon and asked them since they brought back the Rabbit Sedan and the Rabbit Diesel Pickup was tied to the Rabbit Sedan, when could we expect the Pickup Version to be put on the Market?

LOL, you know VW had to have hated this question, so far nobody has responded.

What the hell does this mean, "the first pickup truck in years"? The rabbit truck has been produced since it left here in the us in South Africa along with the Rabbit called Citi Golf. In Brazil they already sell a Saveiro truck?

Did someone forget the word new in their statement? Trucks to VW aren't new

The Rabbit pickup is still on the VW South Africa page. And they'd sell the crap out of them today in the USA because there's simply nothing like it.

if they would build a truck, even a fullsize with a TDi and price it at the same point of gas competition they would sell millions! i know my dad would buy 2 for shop and parts carriers. they run cheap but still have power for the highway. right now we have a 03 F150 V6. what a peice of garbage. it gets worse mileage than my dad's 03 SS Silverado. and acceleration.... what acceleration?!
bring diesel to the smaller trucks and you have a winner!

I know I'm in the minority, but I really liked the Rabbit pickup. For the time it was fairly sharp-looking, and just the right size. Not for heavy-duty hauling or work, but as a personal-use vehicle ample cargo space it was fine. Now that all the "compact" pickups except the Ranger have been supersized, I think there's room for a genuine compact pickup again, just as the growth of the Civic/Corolla et al. to previous Accord/Camry et al. dimensions opened room for real compact cars again.
