Volkswagen keeping T-Cross crossover out of the US

The upcoming T-Cross is too small for the United States.

Volkswagen will release a small crossover named T-Cross (pictured) next year in a majority of the global markets it's present in. Don't expect to see it join the Golf and the new Jetta in American showrooms, though.

Industry trade journal Automotive News learned Volkswagen will not sell the T-Cross in the United States or Canada due to its size. We don't know its dimensions yet but the firm promises the model will slot below the T-Roc, which is about the same size as a Jeep Renegade.

This isn't the first time Volkswagen has kept its smaller, cheaper models out of America. We're not getting the aforementioned T-Roc or the new Polo for many of the same reasons. Not only are they too small, according to officials, they'd also be too expensive for the United States.

At the other end of the spectrum, the Touareg won't return to our shores anytime soon. That means Volkswagen of America's crossover and SUV line-up will consist only of the Tiguan Limited, the Tiguan, and the Atlas in the foreseeable future.

Executives previously announced plans to quickly launch at least two new models, including a brand-new entry-level model to replace the Tiguan Limited and a smaller variant of the Atlas with room for five instead of seven. We'll see both models before the turn of the decade.
