Volvo announces product offensive 2009

Volvo Cars is facing the most intensive period of new car launches ever in the company’s history. During the next three years Volvo will launch seven new models, the company has announced. Volvo Cars’ main objective is to create profitable growth by 2009 and reach the long-term retail target of 600,000 cars. What will these new models be? We already know about the 2007 S80 and the 2007 C30. If the C70 is not considered “launched” yet, then that makes the third vehicle. But what about the other four? A new S60, V70, and XC70 are very likely. So what’s left? We’re betting on an XC50 crossover (shown right). A new XC90 might also be in the cards. If Volvo isn’t counting cars like the new S80 and C70 in the seven new models, Volvo fans can also dream about a C90 or S100.

Renault is launching a product offensive, VW is doing one, now Volvo – who is going to buy all these cars?!

That crossover, like all Volvos, looks good…until you get to the back.

Nah, not all Volvo’s backs look bad, although I don’t particularly care for the S80’s. The V70, V70R, V50 and S40 look really nice to me. In fact, I own a V70 XC, an XC 70, a V70R and a 940 Turbo wagon. So I guess I’m a bit biased.

That C30’s rear end is absolutely god-awful, though. Awesome looking car otherwise.
