Volvo announces UK pricing for XC60

06/03/2008, 1:57 PM

By Drew Johnson

Volvo has released UK pricing information for its all-new XC60 compact SUV, and it looks as though the Swedish automaker plans to under cut the competition. The XC60 will list from £24,750 ($48,700) when it hits UK showrooms this summer, nearly £5,000 ($9,800) less than a comparable BMW X3.

XC60 buyers will be able to choose from one of three models — base S, SE and SE Lux. On top of those three choice, buyers will also be able to choose from three engines — two versions of Volvo’s D5 turbodiesel (one making 161 horsepower and the other 182) and a 281 horsepower six-cylinder gas engine (which will only be available on SE and SE Lux models).

The base S model will come equipped with 17 inch wheels, fog lights, climate control, a host of electronic safety features and an MP3 stereo system while the SE trim level (£26,250) will add Hill Descent Control, power seats and mirrors and chrome window trim.

The range-topping SE Lux (£28,750) will check in with features like 18 inch wheels, active headlights, rear park assist, power liftgate, leather upholstery, Nordic Light Oak natural wood trim and heated front seats.

If Volvo keeps to its XC60 pricing scheme, look for the compact SUV to start from in the low to mid 30s when it hits U.S. showrooms.

Well since nobody wants to comment on this car and I have a few minutes, all I have to say is…….. LAME, and even that’s saying too much.

Hmmm, better be 10k less than the X3 in the US too if they hope to sell any here. That would put it in the low 30’s-ish, which wouldn’t be awful considering a Saturn Vue can top 30k…

The best I can say about Volvo’s is that they don’t suck as much as they used to.

Best Volvo with their new styling to date. Some of the earlier Volvo’s were pretty awesome too, don’t see them much in motorsport anymore.

golf4me- Why 10k? I think this would sell pretty well 5k below the X3. Not only is the X3 one of the worst products to come from BMW ever, in both my opinion and journalists, but this looks much better, and has a lot more character. Most of that may just be opinion, but I think some would agree…

Jay, just going by what the article said (9800 actually). Volvo just does not have the cache of BMW. I won’t argue with you about the current X3, though the next one is supposed to be a lot better than the current one, according to some friends of mine that work for BMW.

Oh, and I think the X3 is way overpriced, and if this comes in 10k less, it will be right-priced.

Volvo is the most prostituted company on earth, thanks to Ford. Until they get their liberty, there will be no success for them. Look at Aston and Jag.

Aston was successful when under Ford, it was very profitable, Ford just needed the money and Aston was the least integrated into Ford.

autonut, Volvo is doing very well. A friend of mine sells them here in town and the S40 and C30 are ordered three months out, and he turns over two S60s for every ES300 sold at the Lexus shop next door. They are pretty neat cars; the S40 and C30 with the T5 motor (2.5 liter turbo inline five-cylinder) are a hell of a lot more fun to drive than the Volvo of just three years ago. Unlike the other companies, Ford left Volvo’s manufacturing and HQ in Sweden.
