Remember, it was less than ten years ago that the concept of a Volvo SUV was totally alien and far from universally welcome. Now the brand’s going to collapse WITHOUT it?

If US gasoline goes to $4-$5 and stays there, Volvo will look real smart for dropping anything with a V-8 in it.

The real mystery is why this alleged “green” automotive brand has got zero going on the hybrid front, even for show.

Alright, I’ve had it with Leftlane. This site sucks and here’s why:

1.) How many times in the last week have we seen a “follow up” story that completely goes against a previous story? (Bob Lutz retiring? Yes, oh wait no.)

2.) People like frankhoffy (”They took our jobbbs!”), and 14658 (Who says “it can’t be that hard to create a new vehicle”) frequent Leftlane’s comment boards. These aren’t even the worst offenders. Mentioning cumdumpsters while commenting about an auto article is really cool.

I will never be able to take Leftlane’s reporting seriously. The site looks good and I like that its updated everyday but that’s about it. I After keeping up with this site for a while, I have to say that somehow I think that the writers for Leftlane might actually know less about the auto industry than the people that write in the comment boards. What’s the deal with this site? Who writes this stuff? Do they have any experience other than creating this site? I don’t get it! Just thought I would let everyone else that reads these comments know. Hopefully the writers at Leftlane read this too and feel bad about themselves.

p.s. I’m really jealous that Leftlane writers get to go out and act like real automotive journalists. I want to do that.

I doubt volvo at sweden is happy about ford stopping their XC90…its by far their best selling car…it cant be that hard to create a new vehicle…i bet they are hiding something and will release something in the future

It has environmental engine all over Europe it is called diesel. I haven’t seen other version of this rig in Europe – only with diesel. As a matter of fact I saw more of them then Benzes and X5s & X3s combined. Even well to do Europeans will not buy “environmentally unsuitable” vehicle due to cost of running it at $7-8/gallon. If Ford um Volvo could certify their diesel in US solution would be obvious.

I thought the XC90 was a grandslam for Volvo’s sales. Something’s up. This environmental drivetrain thing is attempting to cover-up something else. There’s a bigger picture here. So, for the record, Tupac is still alive and this XC90 thing’s a coverup.

Not a bad SUV, especially w/ the V8. That’s unfortunate, but Ford/Volvo should have stayed on top of their **** I suppose. It’s weird also cause the XC90 is common and gets a lot of sales

Whaaat? Ford has the Escape/Mariner hybrids and the Fusion/Milan is supposed to go on sale next year. The 5 cylinder Volvo turbos are already very efficient; they would make an interesting combo with Ford’s hybrid technology. I’m with Z06ified; until the sale goes through don’t expect much more from Volvo.

I think this has more to do with Ford’s pending sale of Volvo, rather than lack of environmentally friendly powerplants. I guess negotiations didn’t go well with Yamaha…
