I know I've said it before AMG, but your proud, mysogenistic boast about your borderline psychotic behaviour only reinforces my conviction that I think you might need more than an aspirin - get out to some friendly bars, you'll find a good-hearted cow-hand to give you sphincter the loosening its crying out for.

deanster... and they always have a fucking phone glued to their ear... I've stopped traffic before in my hometown to get out, walk to the car behind me, and say "lady i'm not moving that goddamn car until you hang up that fucking phone.." Am I the only fucking person who'll stop the car.. or wait til I get to the store, or home, or wherever the fuck I'm going to have a conversation on the damn phone?? The only time that phone ever opens while I'm driving is to tell the wife or whoever two words - "i'm driving" click... stupid broads..

These safety features are for women. They're fucking heinous drivers, not a single one can drive. Not ONE. EVERYtime I see someone do something outrageously stupid on the road, I say "Bet it's a bitch." And it always is....

My A4 gives me a warning if I drive for 2 hours without stopping, its not annoying and it also gets comprehensively ignored. At least this one reacts to bad driving, but I wonder what happens on a winding road.
.
If they linked it to the Sat-Nav they could sell it as an advertisement opportunity - "you appear tired, why not take a enlivening break at the Spearmint Rhino, just three miles north."

more gimicks from volvo to try to sale cars. I really hate companies like volvo, toyota, and honda who have to rest on some half proven absurd laurel about their cars. Volvo = safe, toyota/honda = reliability (so they say, but recent reports have PROVED otherwise). If those companies lose those 'key' stigmas they are xxxxed. Because no one would buy their vehicles other wise. Pretty soon i imagine they will learn how to build exciting cars that are reliable that people actually desire to drive. Think about it, if Volvo's werent the so called 'safest thing on the road' what else do they have going for them to make someone actually purchase a 60K S80 over a STS/5 Series/E Class.....

yeah thats right... not a damn thing

Other automanufacturers already have the system, but for the most part it's breaking assit. I'm guessing that this system takes it a step further, which is a welcome thing.

I believe it does have "senses" for the weather built into the traction control system. I'm guessing they'd use that as the basis of their braking system.

So if they make a pee-tech diesel and put it in a Volvo, the car can tell me when to have a coffee and 30 minutes later it can tell me to refill the urea tank.

It's a scumbag hippie's dream car! Then again Volvo always was.

Volvo's outside temperature gauge does alert you when the temperature hits 36 or below, so I assume they would tie into this to know whether braking is safe.

That automatic breaking system would be awful were i live. If there is any snow or ice on the ground, often the worse thing you can do is put the breaks on. hopefully Volvo was smart enough to include something to prevent them from applying the breaks when road conditions are bad.

what if the driver is drinking coffee and that is making him/her "veer" the car? How redundant is a coffee break warning light then? Huh, Huh???
Comment by maximus, posted on August29 at 4:33 pm

In that case I'm sure it's smart enough to display the "Time for decaf" message.

Gosh, some of you guys can make ignorant comments!

It's not necessarily telling you to drive and drink coffee. If you read the article, the car simply suggests you take a break, and yes, there just happens to be a cup of coffee above the dial!

With all of this worry about driver distraction, you would think that Volvo would offer a factory integrated BlueTooth setup, and voice activation of all car functions (including nav).

They need to focus on some basic technology before they start doing this other stuff.

V-series is correct, the commodore and it's varients suggest you take a break after 2 hours of driving (which ties into Australian government ads which combat driver fatigue)

When you're driving too long, a nozzle should come out of the dash and spray boiling water in your face. With a warning, of course. Like "Time to pull over.....pull over please.....you have 10 seconds to pull over or the nozzle will come out."

It's not the first car to tell people to take a break. The 04-06 Pontiac GTO tells its driver to take a rest after they have been driving for too long. Except it shows a park bench instead of a coffee cup.

Wow what a concept! Product placement: are you ready for a cap of Gevalia coffee? I think Gevalia is Swedish or at least Scandinavian.

what if the driver is drinking coffee and that is making him/her "veer" the car? How redundant is a coffee break warning light then? Huh, Huh???

omg that is soo lame.......... what if i dont wanna take a break!?!? I can just picture the annoying repetitive warning light..... why not add an annoying voice to it too ala 2001: a Space Odyssey?

"90% of all accidents caused by driver distraction"?? Hey, what about a system that shuts off your cellphone automatically when you enter the car? How many accidents are caused by drivers being too TIRED??? Unless you're a trucker, prolly not that many!

i did read it. it seems like a good idea, although the idea of the car stopping independently of my actions is sort of upsetting; what if it malfunctions?

i like the suggestion to take a break. i've gotten tired on interstates several times without realizing it... if my car told me to take some time off i'm pretty sure i'd do it.
