Volvo produces 15,000,000th vehicle

02/22/2008, 11:01 AM

By Drew Johnson

Volvo reached a major milestone this week, producing its 15,000,000th vehicles. The first Volvo — a ÖV4 “Open Car” — rolled of the production floor in 1927 and, fittingly, the 15,000,000th vehicle was a Volvo C70 convertible.

Volvo produced just 297 cars in 1927 and it took the automaker 23 years to reach the 100,000 unit mark — the amount of vehicles that Volvo now builds in three months.

Volvo has also since expanded its operations, which now include commercial trucks, buses, construction equipment and marine drives.

You can’t knock Volvo, they’ve hung in their no matter what anyone says. And I also don’t see Volvo recalling 60 bagillion cars this year =/

i wonder how many of them are buses and trucks, if they’re included. if a bus isn’t a volvo here, is a benz. or the minimal portion of the hydrogen vws.

Ever since I was a little boy, I’ve played that little game while driving or being driven of trying to identify the make and model of anything else that catches my attention on the road. The only Volvo model to this day that I can name is the old 240 series. Any of the new ones- I know they’re Volvos- but as to what model I probably couldn’t guess to save my life.

Volvos don’t have to be recalled. They break down so much the dealers just do the “special favors” while they’re in the shop each month.

Swedes are generally blond-haired and blue-eyed, so der Führer would have liked them.

The two highest odometers I’ve ever seen were in Volvos. XC90 was a distant consideration in my last round of shopping.

Not the most exciting cars in the world, but that’s not why you buy a Volvo.
