Volvo will show another “green” version of its C30 at next week’s Frankfurt Auto Show. The automaker has already revealed that it would be displaying high-efficiency C30 next week, and now the company has announced it will also show a plug-in hybrid version of the C30.
Called the ReCharge Concept, the vehicle features four electric motors, one at each wheel, which are powered by lithium-polymer batteries. The ReCharge is also equipped with a 1.6 liter gasoline engine, producing 100 horsepower, that automatically charges the batteries when the electrical charge in the batteries falls below 30%. And, unlike Chevrolet ’s Volt concept, the ReCharge has a user-operated button that can initiate the gas engine.
Volvo claims that on a 93 mile trip, the ReCharge will return 124 mpg. The hybrid C30 also has decent acceleration, going from 0-62 in 9 seconds. The ReCharge can be fully charged using a standard electrical plug in about 3 hours.
