I was able to test drive an C3 last weekend. Yes it has more punch than a cooperS but less than a GTI… its somewhat attractive and more comfortable than the mini. I see many single nurses and college chicks driving this around massachusetts in the near future.

The Chevy Volt says it will get 150 mpg over 60 mi. That is, for the first 40 mi it uses no gas and then for the next 20 it is getting about 50 mpg – so effectively 150 mpg over the 60 miles.

Their calculations are probably similar – once you exceed the range of your battery’s home charge, you’re getting 45-50 mpg – similar to other hybrids.

I only drive 30-40 mi on most days though – if that were the case you could use very little gasoline over months.

Very interesting and I think equally expensive concept. How much complete car will cost even if mass produced? I guess (!) placing efficient direct injection 1.6L motor into small car would get a decent mileage and will drop the cost compare to 5 cyl. turbocharged one coming statewide. In Europe it will be available with 1.6L diesel, which in most applications delivers 60 mpg with decent performance today (and will cost less then 5 cyl turbo!).

Its manly to not get 120 mpg Ill continue to put 70 dollars in gas in my big rig duelly than buy some sveeedish cracker jack box….That will be voice of americans on this product sadly. People measure the size of thier “stuff” by the size of the vehicle they drive and not by the size of their brain.

Hopefully all car companies jump in and at least offer 1 or 2 vehicles for the everyday gridlock drivers like this car. Small and efficient. Good god, 120MPG!!! Are you kidding?? I don’t care if it looks like a pile of dog crap, 120MPG!!! People will buy it in masses. They also will have 2 other vehicles they love in their driveway for weekends…thats reality.
