Volvo S80 prototype gets pulled over by the police (Updated)

01/17/2006, 6:27 PM

By admin

It’s not every day you see a disguised prototype car getting pulled over by the police. But that’s what happened in Australia when law enforcement there wanted to have a chat with the test driver of what appears to be a 2007 Volvo S80. Perhaps the driver was speeding, or maybe there were road-worthiness issues related to the camo. Or perhaps BMW/Pontiac/Buick just wanted their front fascia back. The S80 has since been revealed sans-disguise (side view | front view), but we thought this rare occurrence was still worth a note. Update: Since this photo was just taken recently, it’s possible this is a Volvo test car other than the S80, however it appears very similar to the S80 prototypes that were spotted months ago.

A correction: The car was actually pulled over by the Australian police while performing high-temperature testing. The photos were taken by a swedish family living in Australia who noticed the swedish number plates on the cars in the convoy. Apparently the disguised car did not have any plates and that is probably why they got pulled over.

This apparently happened just a couple a days ago, and so after the “non-disguised” photos you are referring to.

I read in a danish newspaper, that it was disguised to look like a BMW not to attract attention(!), but they forgot the numberplates, as Joakim also writes, and got stopped by the cops. And all of the other cars following the prototype was Volvos with Volvo employees.
