Volvo unveils S80L long-wheelbase model for Chinese market

11/18/2008, 2:57 PM

By Nick Aziz

The Chinese market’s love affair with long-wheelbase sedans is certainly no secret, and Volvo is looking for a piece of the pie with its new S80L sedan. The motivation is simple — Chinese businesspeople prefer to be driven places rather than drive themselves. Volvo has decided to join the burgeoning market with a LWB edition of the S80 sedan.

The S80L was revealed at the Guangzhou Motor Show in south China. Measuring 5.5 inches longer than the regular S80, the car is identical in terms of exterior styling and mechanical features. The more luxurious interior gains all the added length in the rear passenger area, as expected.

The long wheelbase S80L is to be built at the CFMA Chongqing plant in China.

Now if they had made this the standard S80 in the American market, there would still be a reason for the S60.
