Volvo unveils Evolve, Heico, IPD custom C30s

10/31/2006, 11:38 AM

By admin

Volvo today unveiled three customized C30 hatchbacks at the SEMA car show. The Evolve C30 AWD focuses on raw performance, with an impressive 507 horsepower, massive tires, race-inspired suspension, gigantic brakes, sequential twin turbos, exotic exhaust plumbing, an advanced heat exchanger and a screaming yellow high gloss paint scheme. Inside are highly bolstered seats, a safety structure and custom leather touches.

A joint collaboration between German tuner Heico Sportiv and Burton Snowboards, Heico C30 promises those with an active lifestyle the “ultimate lifestyle vehicle.” The 300 horsepower AWD C30 features a height adjustable suspension, custom cut Toyo tires and a complex six layer camouflage paint job. Inside, there’s a portable GPS system and gleaming 2008 Burton snowboards and boots.

High tech and high style come through in the International Product Development (IPD) SEMA C30, all draped in the colors of the Swedish flag. Producing 384 horsepower, the ipd C30 retains its factory front-drive layout and offers plenty of electronic fun and a thoroughly custom fabricated interior, highlighted by a touch screen in the floating center stack and a heads-up instrument display. The icing on the cake is the fully functioning gull-wing style doors. Gallery after the jump…

The Evolve C30 sports 507 horse? Through the front wheels? That looks like a transverse-mounted FWD V6 to me… and if so, then why are there 10″ wide slicks on the rear tires? Oh, wait — you want to *look* tough, *sound* tough, but be largely useless? Gotcha.

(If it’s converted to RWD then all’s well. But color me skeptical.)

God I love IPD, they make the coolest stuff. These new C-30’s are a nice little package. IPD just took it to an exotic level with those gullwings. Brilliant. Oh, and they’re my neighbors! IPD is here in Portland up near PDX. Cool shop, lots of inovative stuff.

Novicius, do you just look at the pictures? Do you not know how to read? It says “The Evolve C30 AWD focuses on raw performance, with an impressive 507 horsepower, massive tires, race-inspired suspension, gigantic brakes, sequential twin turbos, exotic exhaust plumbing, an advanced heat exchanger….”. AWD!!!!!!!!!! So no those 10″ wide rear tires aren’t uses less. And looking at the engine compartment on the yellow car its obvious (to someone who knows cars) that this is definetly a 4 cylinder, the exhaust manifold has 4 pipes, coming off of 4 cylinders going to a bi-sequential TT setup, which incase you don’t know what that means, it 2 turbos one small one, so you have instant boost, then boosting into a larger turbo to give you extremely high hp, without much lag. Read the article before you go typing away.

actually 5 cylinder…. the blue and yellow one is the best looking, would be nicer without that stripe.

I always thought AWD had to have the same size wheels front and back…

Same outside diameter, width can vary.

I hope this isn’t the “glorified” AWD version that some companies use (whereby the front is always engaged and the rear only occasionally), but a true AWD system.

nice runners no doubt, but goofy looking.

Unless the Haldex awd unit is set up to run more power to the rear, wider rear tires will look cool but add to understeer. Snooze.

I’m thinking they probably dipped deeply into MazdaSpeed3 parts bin.

The yellow car has an extra 6 inches tacked onto the schnoz. Looks like an old skool Caterham/Lotus is trying to break out of it. The heat buildup (and soak) from the engine is no doubt impressive ;)

I want the body of the blue and yellow, with the color of the yellow one.

Actually nm, those doors kind of scare me. I pretty much want the yellow one without that front lip spoiler.

acura_el2000….it could be a 5 cylinder, there are 2 I5 motor options, and 3 I4 options, running a twin turbo setup takes lots of space as you can see from the crowded engine compartment on the yellow car, and if you look closely the manifold coming over the back of the engine has 4 pipes coming out. The blue car is for sure the I5 but the yellow appears to be the 4 cylinder, which makes the most sense as it would free up space for the TT setup.

507 horse with awd? When I tell my friend, who thinks volvo is the best thing since any kind of bread whatsoever, he’s going to fill his pants.

I thought the car isn’t even out yet. Anyway, the blue one has a sweet front. 507HP with AWD is sweet as well and knowing Volvo’s superb brakes it may be able to go on some insane runs.
