YES, now we're talkin'. Too bad it won't be in the US, for a few years anyway. Mark my words gents, gas will be $3.00 a gallon before long. It's $1.90 today (Jan 7) in Mpls, MN and going up fast. Speculators are going to bump it up to twice what it is today and diesel vehicles will be selling as fast as they can make 'em. Even $40,000+ Volvos.. 38 mpg in a big, safe Volvo that's pretty fast too? Not bad, not bad at all.

a-ha yeah, Volvo is nothing in your country. That's why 90% of americans drive foreign cars. Volvo ,BMW , Mercedes, Toyota , Lexus etc. because they are "crappy" imported cars. In the meantime the american car industry colapsed, "for no particular reason"... you idiots still can't learn how to make cars...

@Borat
Ford doen't use the I5 diesel over here, they have developed their own diesels with PSA input, the I5 was developed by Volvo, and it is a Volvo exclusive. Though tje 2.2l I4 codeveloped with PSA is actually a really good engine, and will be probably be brought up to ~200hp inits next twin turbo variant,.

Who cares. Volvo is nothing in this Country. Any news about the brand is about as important to Americans as the Weather Channel at 4 in the Morning. Why waste the bandwidth posting articles about crappy cars from Europe?

Diesel is expensive here because the refineries are passing along the costs of having to upgrade their facilities to produce low-sulfur diesel. Taxes are part of it, but most of it is the oil companies trying to recoup those huge costs -- not that I am letting them off the hook, they should have made the upgrades decades ago.

Marvelous piece of engineering, but ill timed. Ford will drop it into all of its vehicles and there will be no reason to purchase Volvo in Europe. If they could only wait for their own sale to introduce it, it could be an ace in sleeve. We will not see it on this side of the pond: gas is cheap and diesel isn't. But would be great for their X90: 315 lbs of tongue in lightweight package.

Why is deisel more expensive than gas in the US? It doesn't make any sense. Not only because it should be simpler to produce, but mostly since it's the fuel that moves most of our consumer goods.
It's also taxed at a higher rate than gas. What's the deal? It really pisses me off that this seemingly illogical price structure robs us of all of these great new engines.
