Nick Connor, Volvo's U.K.-market managing director, has confirmed that the company is working in collaboration with tuner Polestar to develop a hot-rodded version of the V40 hatchback that made its debut in Geneva last March.

Precise technical details are not currently available but Connor told PistonHeads that the Polestar-badged V40 will boast "at least" 10 percent more horsepower than the T5 model. This will put the car in the 280 - 300 horsepower range, a figure that is likely to send shivers down the spine of German heavyweights such as Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

What transmission the V40 Polestar will be equipped with remains a mystery but it will send the engine's power to all four wheels.

The Swedish company will undoubtedly make several interior and exterior modifications to the V40 to make it worthy of wearing a Polestar badge on the grille. Expect bucket seats, a more complete instrumentation, a full body kit, bigger rims that are made out of alloy and a lower ride height.

The brakes and the suspension system will both undergo heavy modifications in order to obtain a more responsive ride.

More details about the performance-oriented V40 and the larger S60 Polestar will be available at the Paris Motor Show when it opens its doors in late September.
