The T5 motor is actually an old tractor motor in some respects; you can take it to 800hp/950 TQ with a monster turbo and built parts, but more modest gains to 400 are very easy.

Johnny, you can get the old volvo's to put out crazy power to the ground with little modification. My friend has a 90's 850 Turbo he picked up for 900 bucks and can do smokey burnouts with a boost controller he bought off of ebay for 80 bucks.

@TornadoGTI, I have driven both, while the Q5 does have the edge as far suspension goes, the XC is not that far behind and the sport suspension of the R might equal things up. I’m predisposed to VW’s and Audi’s; my first car was a VW and I’ve owned quite of a few of both brands over the years. However, I like the XC better. I’m not a fan of electronically adjustable suspensions; they’re great when they work and when something goes wrong… The XC’s Haldex system is excellent – same will be used for the LR2 – it looks better, has better dynamics, better bang for the buck, even when optioned, and with the T6 quick for what it is. A good article:

If I want to buy now, the dealer, a friend, is holding a Diesel Touareg (I'm getting the hard-sell about rarity, last of... lol:-)))… Has me thinking, but it’s a bit large for what I need.

As for the CTS wagon, I’ll look – I prefer sport wagons – an RWD wagon has its merits but it’s smaller than what I need.

@TornadoGTI: I don't get what you mean by GLK being 42k+? Is it with the options you want included, or are you somehow getting the wrong number off of somewhere. It starts at 34k, and that's the 3.5L engine. I checked US only prices.

NMOFGM... What do you think of the Opel Insignia? Or Astra? Or the Holden Commadore aka Pontiac G8? Considering none fo those are built here and designed overseas - do you still feel like it's an American revolution?

Yeah tGTi, you keep thinking that. The CTS wagon will sell for more than any of those you mentioned because GM can command any price they want and people WILL pay for it. THe CTS wagon, like any other Cadillac is the epitome of luxury and sport. Half those pieces of sh1t you just mentioned wouldn;t even hold up to a Buick Enclave let alone a hot new Cadillac. Plus, do you really believe any of those would last beyond the warranty period? rigth, nobody else would believe it either.

Go ahead and make the huge mistake buying an import. Don't come crying back to us about how you wasted your money on a worthless pile of crap. Don't start crying either when the rest of us call you an unAmerican A-hole who sold out his Country by buying an import. Maybe you should move to Europe since you like their crap so much. You obviously don't belong in this Country.

Buy American. Buy GM. It is your patriotic duty

@ DB9 - Q5 and XC60 are on the top of my list for the wifes replacement as well. She REALLY likes the GLK and I have added the LR2 to that list as well. The LR2 is a realitive bargain compared to the others. I like the XC60 a lot because of the interior and the engine and it is also priced well. It is a quick lil CUV/SUV. The Q5 and GLK can get a bit pricey ($42K+) whereas the LR2 and XC60 can be had very well equipped for under $40k.
DO NOT get a CTS Wagon. I think they are very ugly and they will cost just as much if not more than the Q5, GLK, XC60, LR2, etc.

I agree with most of you. This a good looking ride. I have always liked Volvo but up until very recently have been a bit boring and dated. Their newest design scheme that started with the S80 is very nice. All they need now is the replacement for the S60 to come and then do something with the great, but dated, S40. Then they will have a good line-up of cars. Maybe work on the XC90, but I have always liked that vehicle, so it is fine like it is. Just give it the new face of Volvo right off the S80 and they will be rocking.

Bring that new S60 or a new S40 and they might get one more sale... ME

That's funny NMOFGM, i believe no body care about GM no more here. Cadillac is not world of luxury and sport vehicles, if they are that much better how come they did came out some thing can compet with Bentley? This is the first time Cadillac has their best performance and realiablity, before they are crap just like any other GM vehicle. By selling Camaro overseas is not going to make any different compare the missing action between 2003 to 2008. Is going to be hard for GM in next couple years, and I'm sure they can make it. But they have to make sure the buyer are please on the product first.

Volvo has known best safety and performance, and is from sweden. A little country can make something this good, you really have to give them the credit for it.

A sports suspension?

Dare I ask how much more money you will charge us for a suspension and a big R?

Oh I forgot the body kit and interior "upgrades"...

You know what would be ironic? And I'm only purely speculating/kidding around here... if the "upgrades" mentioned in this article added enough weight to allow the base model XC60 to outrun the R model in a drag race...

This fall I'm in the market for a tall wagon style CUV. So far I've narrowed it down to the Audi Q5 & Volvo XC60 - at the outside, when it's out, I'll look at the new CTS wagon (not really big enough). My current preference is for the XC60; the above would seal the deal. I would even put off a purchase to the first half of next year...

So far I’ve narrowed it down to the Audi Q5 & Volvo XC60 – at the outside, when it’s out, I’ll look at the new CTS wagon (not really big enough). My current preference is for the XC60; the above would seal the deal. I would even put off a purchase to the first half of next year…

DB9;-)

Looks like a Chevy Equinox wannbe. Only this one will have the gawdaweful European quality and reliability to go with it so expect typical import misery ownership. The rest of us will buy a superior Chevy Equinox, GMC Terrain or Cadillac SRX and drive it for hundreds of thousands of miles with narry a problem.

Buy American. BuyGM.
