Hopefully, the roof won’t leak like it did on my 2003 New Beetle Convertible. Which, you might be interested was NOT covered by VW’s warranty. You beeter be careful…when you buy a vehicle from VW the leaking roof is YOUR problem, not there’s!

It is cheaper than the G6 hard top with the 2.0 engine. It is cheaper than the Volvo C70 with the 3.2 engine. Plus it has a sunroof that neither of its competitors have. It is priced right in line with the two other hard top convertibles. There are only 3 of these on the market in the USA. The Eos might be the best one out of the three.

And for all that coin would it hurt VW to make the car a bit more masculine? Whether or not the Cabrio was actually a chick car, everyone thought it was a chick car. These lines do little to change the impression that this is just a hard-top version of that. Maybe in Europe where the man-purse is an accepted convention this is a hot car, but not in the US!

There’s too much price increase for the V6. For a $8860 premium you get 2 more cylinders (but loose the turbo), some wood trim, 17″ wheels instead of 16″, rain sensing wipers, and some steering wheel controls. That’s a transparent rip off. For that money, the Dynaudio stereo, navigation, and bi-xenon headlights should be included.

Electrical problems are par for the course when it comes to German cars. Kind of like crappy build-quality is par for the course for American cars. And Oil leaks are par for Italian cars.

I agree with VW’s price bloat. I think the new Passat wagon is awesome, but it’s $32K for the features I want. A Mazda 6 wagon is about 27K.

From what I read, VW has high union costs in Germany which is probably making them more expensive. You also have to look past the electrical issues (my 2004 GTI’s gas gauge has been replaced twice but still wanders around).

But their design is often tasteful and the interior quality is there. It’s tough love!

I remember when Volkswagen was the “people’s car”. Now you can’t even get a base model Jetta for the same price as a fully loaded Ford Focus for God’s sake. Audi’s influence ruined what was once a great company, now it’s just more rich people cars that us poor trash can’t afford. God forbid poor people drive safe cars right?

Pricing isn’t that crazy, since the new Volvo C70 hardtop convertible starts at $38,710, and that’s for a 2.5 liter turbo which gets 218 bhp. Hardly impressive compared to the base price of $27,990 for the VW, which has only 18 horse less, but is easily tunable with a chip from APR (or other tuners), which will boost the engine a good 20 horse or more, and still make the car cost a lot less than the Volvo.

Not according to ConsumerReports. You may not like their unbiased consumer surveys, but that car had one of the highest problems per 100 cars ratio. As did many VWs.

The G6 has all if not more of the content, and frankly more “style” (tho maybe not in a good way), and so does the Volvo. Another car coming out will be the MX5 for about 24k. No matter how you slice it, it’s a lot of $$ for a small VW based on the Jetta.

Also, I didn’t mean hardtop convertibles, I meant all vehicles. Not everyone wants that. They have their drawbacks, one being no trunk space top-down. I know-I have an SLK.

Even so, I’d rather have a used SLK32 (which until very recently was MB’s fastest car) for 30k.

Nobody complains about how expensive the Touareg is because its such a great car with extremely high quality. Likewise, nobody will complain about this hardtop convertible because it destroys its competition: the volvo S40 convertible. Its cheaper, just as good looking, but better engineered and with HUGE tuning potential.

Also, if you are going to get one, skip out on the vr6 model. The 2.0T is underrated from the factory and actually pumps out 225 hp (according to dyno testing). With a chip and exhaust you can easily make another 50, so the vr6 is pretty much a waste (and its heavy).
