NEW FUTURE MARKET
  • VW China sales exceed home market

    By Andrew Ganz

For the first time ever, Volkswagen Group sold more cars in China than it did in its home market of Germany. During the first half of 2009, Volkswagen sold 652,000 cars in China, while it sold 631,900 vehicles in Germany during the same period. Both figures represented an increase in demand for the automaker’s portfolio.
VW saw a 22.7 percent increase over the same period in 2008 in China, while its sales increased 18.3 percent in Germany.

For comparison, Volkswagen saw a 5 percent dip in global demand, mostly dragged down by sluggish new car demand in North America and in much of Europe. The automaker sold 221,900 cars in North America and 1,662,900 cars in all of Europe.

The figures include the entire lineup of Volkswagen Group products, including VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Bentley, Bugatti and Lamborghini.

Working in factories producing junk for Wal*Mart to sell must be lucrative for the Chinese people. They’re buying up all the world’s cars.

So the real news here is that VW’s are of slightly higher desirability than Wulangs, Geelys, and beasts of burden as means of transportation.

VW has a nice portfolio of marques. 221k cars in North America. They might as well give up the market. I can’t imagine how their cars could appeal to the morbidly obese buffet loving US population.

china is going to be the biggest market for everything in due time…and they own 1.5 trillion in US debt, so lets not piss them off any time soon…

Why do people keep buying VW’s when they are incredibly unreliable. I’ve heard more than one Tranny failure story and that was enough to forget about the company.

VW stands for People’s Car….I guess this will become true in China.

Bodyshop and labor are cheap in China. For ppl who can afford VW, BMW, etc in China, reliability isn’t a big problem.. Many of them hire their own drivers, maintenance is done by the driver too.

VW is a cheap brand in China too and made in almost 100% in china. but this isn’t a surprise news anyways, china is already the biggest auto market.. I guess most brands sell more in China than anywhere else.

I just wonder when China kicks out the non chinese auto companies and builds their own cars.

It’s only a matter of time before the Chinese realize what junk American cars are.

Be careful what you say here. The moderators must be foreign as they have no regard for the 1st Amendment. Or as Noam Chomsky said: “If you believe in freedom of speech, you believe in freedom of speech for views you don’t like. Stalin and Hitler, for example, were dictators in favor of freedom of speech for views they liked only. If you’re in favor of freedom of speech, that means you’re in favor of freedom of speech precisely for views you despise.”

They will ban you if they don’t like what you’re saying.

the first amendment doesn’t apply to a 3rd party’s website, they can moderate whatever they like because its their property…”freedom of speech” wasn’t intended to allow nerdrage to flow boundlessly throughout the internet…on your own website you’re free to say whatever you like, within the boundaries of the law and the terms of service of your web host (and there are boundaries)…on somebody else’s website, not so much…play by their rules, or take a hike…those are the only options…

think of it like a party hosted by LLN…you came to their party…if you come to their party and cause trouble for them, they have every right to shut you up, it’s their party…

They do have money. Last year I was in China, I think I saw more S Classes than the C Class. More Audi than Mercs and Bimmers. At least it’s not Toyota that they’re spending their money on.

Way to misrepresent Noam Chomsky… I really doubt he was referring to privately owned websites that are moderated in order to keep things civil, rather than censor free speech.

Plus the people who get banned, are usually banned because they are being extremely rude and disruptive, not because they are advocating ideas that the moderators are against.

Sorry to sound like Jimjackturkey here but -

Can I add that Leftwing makes some of the most sense on this website which freaks me out a little?

Angry Dragon – Chinese don’t drive “American” cars BTW – American badged cars yes, but most of their Buick models come from and are designed in Korea, Australia and Germany – far from American. Dumb@ass.

steve333 – Never drove a VW/Audi I guess, you’d figure it out with their nice interiors and engaging rides.

      ICEMAN – Go F*** Yourself – A4 is a saint!

andy – Really? No, really? Audi’s are chick cars? What makes for a man car then? A pen!s on it’s hood?
