VW considering U.S. Porsche Cayenne production

Volkswagen could build the Porsche Cayenne at its upcoming U.S. plant, a new report finds. The new plant is scheduled to open in 2010, and could be producing the Porsche Cayenne just a few years after that. The decision hinges on whether VW will build the Touareg and Audi Q7 in the U.S.

Germany’s Handelsblatt newspaper revealed the possibility, citing internal VW sources.

VW spokesman Andreas Meurer also confirmed the possibility. “When we discuss whether to build the [VW] Touareg and [Audi] Q7 in the USA, we also talk about the Cayenne,” Meurer told Automotive News Europe.

The VW Touareg, Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne all ride on the same platform and are produced at the same plant. A plan to move SUV production to the U.S. would seem to make sense as it is the largest market for SUVs. BMW already produces the majority of its SUVs at its South Carolina plant.

VW’s U.S. plant will have an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles and will initially produce the Jetta and a Passat-sized sedan. However, Audi models could also be produced at the plant, along with the company’s trio of SUVs.

  1. Build more plants here that is a good thing. Seeing how are company’s are closing theres. Need the job’s. But really it seems like almost every company out there just rebadge’s there one SUV into three or more. VW Audi Porsche. Chevy Tahoe Cadi.
    Expediton’ Navi. Except BMW. X5 = X5

  5. I would like to hear complaints that profits will go to Germany. That seems to be argument for every Asian plant being build here.
Actually X5 is not that far from X3 (or other way around) at least in the interior space department. Mechanically I think they are identical.

  6. Well I think that japs outnumber the germans in this country by far. I think we should take back our entire country and kick all these foreigners out, but it will never happen. At least the germans don’t COPY our technology.

  8. WHAT XYUNYA!
Really why don’t you learn about cars before you make a comment on something. You make yourself look stupid. X5 and the X3 are alot differnt, different chassi’s and are made in two differnt countrys. 3series crossover= x3 with xdrive all wheel drive. 5series crossover = x5 same xdrive system different power trains. different mechanically, but all share the passion of a bmw driving theme.

  9. And to the comments about profit well MB and BMW profit margin is only about 6.5% markup here. Japs about 9.0% in highline. Becasue there cars are just rebadging.

  10. ANd they pay there workers more. Last time I checked toyota is not paying as much money on labor as GM is at there plants in the us. And HOnda has more plants in Canada than here OR japan

  11. I but Xyunya think’s that the 3series is the same car as the 5series. Yeah only in your world.

  12. I just can’t get over how many of this trio they sell. Obviously the ‘haves’ in our society are rolling right along. I pulled up next to a Q7 the other day and thought I was next to a battleship. I swear if the thing was any bigger they could add a shuffleboard court and a promenade deck.

  13. foster1, try to come down. You do look extremely smart, but either X3 or X5 come with the same base I6 mill and the same trannny. X3 was a smaller version of the first gen X5. As far as passion for driving: they are truck-like vehicles, they have passion for selling product at high price because of propeller on the hood.

As far as profits go, what the difference if it 6.5% or 9%? The one who makes 9% should be considered smarter by making more. It is absurd to complain about prices of Asians compare to BMW, Porsche and M-B.

But that’s not why you hate Japanese. You hate them because they are different race then you are. You just a racist, perhaps with lipstick in real life, but a racist.

  14. VW just needs to drop the whole lineup. SUV sales are falling across the board and you want to open a plant to make more? Why not go back to what you were good at. Making small affordable cars for the masses.

Q7 may be Audi’s best seller right now… but give it 6 months with gas prices at $4+ a gallon, it will be a totally different story.

Most Americans are still reeling in shock from the steep climb of fuel prices, but once everything settles and the cost of fuel is spread out to everything we buy even the upper middle class folks are going to be looking for ways to cut spending and hold onto that money they worked so hard to make. The first thing to go is going to be that super-lux SUV.

  15. Xyunya, why do you always use the excuse someone is a “racist” just because we don’t get on our knee’s to a bunch of japs trying to take over the workforce of this country? The fact that we allow them to sell their vehicles here is a PRIVELAGE to them, they don’t alow U.S dealerships in japan, not last time I checked. So stop your bleeding heart liberal attitude and face the facts that foreign countries are trying to buy us out a little at a time.

  16. Getting back to the point, the Cayenne is an overpriced P.O.S. Period.

  17. If you can’t afford $4 a gallon gas then your broke ass needs to ride the bus with the rest of the poor people. I’m sick of hearing about this ****. Be an adult and a man and suck it up. Can’t afford it? Get a third job you lazy bastards. Just quit being a little bitch about fuel prices. “Mommy, mommy, my vagina hurts!”

Besides, I’m all for higher gas prices. It keeps the poor uninsured bald tire riding douche-nozzles off of the streets that they don’t pay taxes for and never learned how to drive on properly in the first place. Not being able to afford the doubling of any commodity annually proves you’re not responsible enough to be trusted to drive with the rest of society that earns a living and contributes to the system. Build me an SUV that runs on the bones of the poor and I’ll be the first in line to buy it… two of them in fact. F**king irresponsible babies!!!!

  18. Just because we can afford gas and food at double the price of two years ago dosen’t mean that we have to like it.
There are probably plenty of us out here as well who would gladly take the bus if we could. But sadly every city dosen’t have a quality and reliable public transport system like NY or DC or ATL or LA.
I’d much rather sit my happy arse on the bus and save the $80 I spend on gas every month on booze.

  19. you don’t have to take public transportation, get your fat ass on a bicycle and bike your way to work- just be sure you are off the road so i don’t run you over- if not, buy a segway

  20. I live in a city that has one of the worst public transportation systems of any city but the poor seem to manage to get to Wal-Mart and their local All-You-Can-Eat restaurant just fine. Nothing makes my day better than when I get to drive by a bus stop or a city bus and flip everyone off as I drive by going straight to my destination without stopping. Then I proceed to say a prayer, thanking God I’m not lazy. I hope gas gets to $10 a gallon to keep as many of these idiots off the road and out of my way as possible. I shouldn’t have to be subjected to taking financial care of the poor and still have to look at them.

  23. I like the Cayenne. It looks good, handles well, goes fast, and the base model is closely priced to the MDX, ML, and even loaded X3. What’s the problem with it HRR? Seriously, I was considering getting one next year - is there something I should know about?

  24. No need for mirrors, I just use the pools of blood from the poor as a mirror to ensure there’s nothing in my teeth. Sometimes, after the poor wax my car, or after cleaning my gold, I can see my reflection that way, but all in all, no use for mirrors much.

  25. oh god, why would you want americans building porsches? we already suck at building american cars, I doubt we will be any better at building german cars. all the american built benzes are total garbage in terms of build quality and electrical problems. when it comes to electronics, america knows ****, thats why we completely lost our consumer electronics industry.
