VW gets Playboy placement for Rabbit

Volkswagen’s wacky marketing is showing no sign of relenting. As a part of its “Rabbit is back” campaign, Volkswagen has arranged for the three Playboy bunnies on the magazine’s September front cover to appear in a reverse angle shot on the back cover ad sporting the Rabbit icon. Polybagged versions of the magazine ship this week.

I say this as a former GTI owner:

VW always has great ad campaigns.

Their cars are fun to drive, but average to mediocre in quality.
What really made me eventually change cars was the dealer indifference (tried multiple dealers).

I’d wager that VW has some of the best car commercials out there along with Mazda. Everyone else’s car ads are pretty lousy. There’s a few Saab commercials that are worth noting, but they aren’t consistantly good.
The thing I find really disappointing with VW commercials, is there’s a lot of really good ones that never see the US market. They’re too ‘edgy’ or VW is afraid that PETA will go nuts. (Like the ad where the car attacks the pigeon)

I guess I don’t get why they are really marketing this rabbit. Has it been long enough they forgot what type of car we Americans associate with that name?

Karl, correct me if I’m wrong — but the car-attacks-the-pigeon commercial is a Ford Ka’s…!

and yes, VW’s euro commercials are close to genious amlost everytime.

I like VWs Viral suicide bomber ad. Polo Small but tough.
The pigeon was a ford ad as was the cat in the sunroof.

The VW suicide bomber ad wasn’t by VW. I agree it was great, but it was either by a marketing firm or film student (can’t remember which), aka – independent.
