VW New Beetle tops most recalled list for 2007

08/20/2007, 1:06 PM

By Drew Johnson

A new report revealed 2007’s top 14 most recalled vehicles. The findings exclude the 3.6 million cars recalled by Ford this year as none were 2007’s.

According to BusinessWeek, 4 of the top 5 recalled cars were imports, the lone domestic being the Jeep Liberty. GM and Ford did well, both having a very low volume of vehicles recalled. Chrysler didn’t perform as well as the other domestics, scoring 3 significant recalls. Full results to follow.

1. Volkswagen New Beetle: 1,002,000
2. Toyota Sequoia: 533,124
3. Jeep Liberty: 149,605
4. Nissan Altima: 140,582
5. Hyundai Tucson: 128,300
6. Dodge Nitro, Jeep Wrangler: 80,894
7. Suzuki Forenza, Reno: 75,697
8. Volkswagen Passat, Passat Wagon: 58,800
9. Chrysler Sebring, 300, Dodge Caliber, Magnum, Charger, Nitro, Jeep Compass, Liberty, Commander, Grand Cherokee, Wrangler: 50,665
10. Infiniti G35 Coupe: 23,934
11. Chevrolet Aveo: 17,676
12. Nissan Versa: 16,309
13. GMC Acadia, Saturn Outlook: 13,032
14. Ford Expedition: 10,061

Shouldn’t the Dodge Nitros in the #6 position be added to the Nitros in the #9 position? THat would make more sense.
Another observation: Even though there’s no Daewoo brand here anymore, all Daewoo-made vehicles that are rebadged into other brands’ vehicles still manage to get the top 11 spots of the recalled list. Is Daewoo amazing or what?

These are just a snapshot of the current year. It doesn’t reflect on the brand alone. If anyone thinks so, then do the last 10 years. Volkswagon isn’t surprising since they normally have a lot of recalls/problems, but Toyota had an off year. I am surprised the Altima was so high as it is an older model and they usually improve over the cycle.

as for that AIDSVICTIM americancarssuck..

honda recalled 81k accords (model year 04/05) this january.

they also recalled 45k+ civic hybrids.. worldwide. in 2007

they also had a recall in japan for 390k vehicles in march – fuel pump, the same problem that had them recall 525000 vehicles in china (a new record) and 165,000 in the US.

You mongoloid.

Aren’t most of these Beetles built in Mexico? All this crap wrong and they want higher wages? Sounds like Big 3 to me. I say performance-based wages are in order.

Me: you’re right, from the CEO on down. everybody gets a certain wage, but if certain quality targets are met, everybody gets a fat bonus how quickly stuff would get tightened up!

The Sequoia number is deceptive. It represents the ball joint recall. Toyota recalled every single Tundra-based vehicle ever made which includes every single Sequoia. When you start to build as many vehicles that Toyota does and share platforms, recalls start to magnify. It’s just another possible risk/cost of attempting to consolidate parts. But in the long run, the benefit is worth the cost.

Hmmm… more Toyotas were recalled then all of the American models on the list…. gee golly… if they were so fan-xxxxin-tastic they wouldn’t have let them out of the factory like that. When will some of you finally get off that goddamn bandwagon. Face it, Toyota has peaked so find something else to preach about.
