The article says, “early reports indicate VW is targeting an astonishing 117 mpg for the tiny two seater.” But it fails to connect the dots that the proposed name “2-Liter” corresponds to 117 mpg. So the “early reports” are actually hidden in the proposed name!

Minus his attitude, golf4me is correct.

2-litre moniker refers to the European efficiency rating which is 2L/100km. In the US we rate based on MILES travelled per GALLON. In Europe, that rate based on LITERS of FUEL needed to travel 100 km. In fact, the car pictured with the article is a version of the famed VW 1-LITER car that Mr Piech drove, which reached the record 1L of fuel for 100 km travelled.

Ummm fellow douchebags, here is the text I am referring to:

“Despite the car’s name, VW plans to equip the 2-Liter with a 1.0L three-cylinder diesel, producing 50 horsepower” —This text implies that it’s ironic that a car named 2-liter would have a 1-liter motor. Which leads me to believe that they have no idea what 2-liter actually stands for…

The NAME “2-liter” denotes what is in my original post, which is it’s EFFICIENCY GOAL. You see, kids, the Euros typically measure their cars’ efficiency in Liters Per Mile, versus our Miles Per Gallon. More recently, they occasionally classify and/or name their cars this way too.

Oh, and BTW, I do not OWN a Golf. I PLAY Golf. Feeble little twerp.

ACTUALLY golf4me, they are referring ‘2-liter’ is what VW is currently using as name of the car. try reading the article a little more carefully.

LLN, “2-liter” means consumption target of 2l/100km. Maybe you knew that, but it sure didn’t seem like it in the text…maybe you should hire someone older than 14 to write your articles?
