I’d only ask if you really think Lamborghinis of today are on the same level of uniqueness as their older models like the Miura of the 60’s, the Espada of the 70’s and Countach of the 70’s-80’s. Perfect cars? Hell no. Direct competition to Ferrari? Not back then and I’d argue that even with their new focus they still aren’t. Today’s Lamborghinis are brilliantly impressive and exclusive cars but they do not win me over the way their older models do or the way the Ferrari 612 and 599 do.

Bentley has been given a second chance at life, absolutely. They are making money and playing to a certain market. I personally feel their previous Rolls-Royce based Arnage line before the new redesign is far more “Bentley” than their newer, sleeker design. Are they successful and turning a profit again? Absolutely. Who am I to throw my opinion around if I think the older ones are more unique?

Bugatti… well you have me there but their company is such a showcase that it really doesn’t matter what models came before. The point of a new Bugatti is to up the ante in every possible way from the design to the performance to the luxury at no spared cost.

I have no experience with Seat and Skoda since they have never been offered in the USA.

All I mean to voice is my concern that Porsche’s core model, the 911, and its many variants will become less focused and unique after several years under VW ownership. In specialty versions it’s a high volume supercar that competes with lower volume supercars priced much higher. And there is no other vehicle like it.

VW has managed its acquired brands to great financial success so I can’t claim and did not claim that VW will ruin the Porsche company. Lamborghini’s model line hasn’t been “ruined” either– it’s just not as unique as it was 25 years ago.

Porsche purists should also know that the very first Porsche, the Porsche 64 of 1939, used a lot of its components from the VW Beetle. The Porsche 365 after WWII also sourced its engine, gearbox, and suspension (yikes!) from the VW Beetle.

So Porsche purists need to suck it up and recognize that Porsche’s relationship with VW goes back to its original founding. Porsche owners like to think their car is blue blooded, but it’s not.

btw, did you know that Ferdinand Piech , the guy who controls VW was responsible for some of the most successful racing Porsches ever, including the 917 ? if anything he will make Porsche a more focused company , according to rumours he already decided to make a new Carrera GT.

We can thank the brilliant upper management at Porsche for failing to realize that VW is a behemoth compared to them. Now without their independence the world will see one of the greatest automotive icons change from a cutting edge to curtailed engineering statement.

Writ, the Audi R4 is already Boxer/Cayman based so i dont htink a Boxer based audi TT would ever be in the mix. Sadly

this thing did 0-35 mph faster than a mclaren f1 back in the day, and hauled 5 people.
I say that this is a wonderful idea as long as vw’s don’t get more expensive.
