VW recalls 340,000 vehicles

10/02/2007, 10:56 AM

By Drew Johnson

Volkswagen has announced the recall of 340,000 cars in the United States. The recall includes 2005-2008 Jetta models and 2006-2008 Rabbit, GTI and R32 models. The recall is due to head lights that don’t comply with federal safety standards. No accidents have been linked to the recall.

The recall adds to VW’s title of most recalled automaker of 2007.

VW recently announced plans to overtake Toyota as the number one automaker by 2015 but quality perception remains a large obstacle in the way of that goal.

cb10: this is why I say be wary of recalls. Do you REALLY think this makes the car unsafe?

To be fair, this recall isn’t really that big of a deal — I mean, it’s not a serious problem for which the cars were recalled for, but VW – dayum, this is NOT good.

Unless these headlights erupt into flames and kill everything in their path, big whoop.
Besides, VW has far worse than this to deal with.

Does anybody know if the instances of recalls are increasing?

Oh please… This isn’t even a recall due to a defective part. It’s simply because a little plastic cap may not have been installed that is put there to prevent people from adjusting the horizontal aim of the headlight. It’s just an idiot cap that may have been put in the wrong spot (in the vertical aim hole instead of the horizontal aim hole).

The money would be better spent educating drivers how to aim their headlights, since I see many cars every day that have their headlights aimed way too high.

As for VW overtaking toyota, I see that as a great possibility. Since the early 90’s they have turned around their company and have been on a roll. Not to far fetched, just funny coming from someone with the name CTS driver . . . . . whose car company won’t be overtaking aything in the near future but a graveyard!!!!

Life is full of sarcasm: the folks who were bellyaching about floor mats recall for Toyota are admitting that head lights are not that big of a deal. I doubt that headlights are big deal (as well as floor mats). I also doubt that WV has a prayer in overtaking anything or anybody. The basic mistake: they don’t know who the enemy is (hint: it is not Toyota).

They are probably recalling for the lights and then when no one is looking they are replacing all the crappy motor components VW is famous for.

VW already overtook Toyota as the crappiest automaker in the western world.

So VW just can’t wait long enough to make sure it retains the crown for the most recall!

Hey VW, when I say I put my car in a garage, I don’t literally mean to have the car FIXED at the dealer’s garage every week.

Keep those lights, VW people. Don’t give in to the Fed! Blind those oncoming drivers! THat’s the proble, right? Too bright? Or is that the lights might explode or melt off?

HAHAHA . . people amuse the hell out of me. Making comments about something that they have no factual information on is hysterical. VW is on track to sell more cars then toyota. It is not a hard thing to imagine. I love your way with words CTS, you are a real mature adult, and wow you own three cars aren’t you special . . . I don’t care what you own. As for your other posts I wouldn’t take a minute of my time to take a look as I bet they are as profound as your comments here.

i cant believe your still mad about me not believing vw will overtake toyota in 8 years (i conceded 20 years), after all isnt that why you tried your petty insult in the first place? anyways any logical conversation with you is also a pipe dream i guess, so you used your entire vocabulary in one little paragraph good job.
.
on a serious note wtf is your problem?
.
i have always said german cars are better than american cars, but vw isnt impressing me here lately at all. so lets get back to what i was trying to say, 8 years not a chance 20 years possibly. so lets try to be civil a little before plainly attacking somebody based upon the first post you have ever read from them.

To overtake Toyota by 2015 means VW has to convince a great many people their products are worth buying. However, design and execution are two different things, especially to VW. Taken in context their plans are nothing more than warm, moist, hydrogen sulphide-laden gas wafting out of Wolfsburg.
