anyway , i still believe you get lower quality European cars in the U.S. , even cars built in Europe are cheaper over the Pond , it must be a reason for that. i was curious and looked up , didn’t find any info about this particular recall in Europe.

and the VR6′ are probably some of the smoothest V-arranged 6 cylinder engines ever made. not that they dont have some issues, ALL CARS DO. Remember, human beings design and/or build all of them.

Sucks for the owners, but this is a bit amusing.. I got a recall on my 99.5 golf 2.0 for almost the exact problem so thats almost 10 years!! Looks like they only choose to fix some things.. (like the windows too)

So if my 99 2.0 had the prob and mk5 r32 has prob, mysteriously the ones inbetween are ok?
WTF vw, fix known issues with ur cars before u release a new one! Soon we’ll see mk6 owners with windows dropping, burning cats and recalled for fuel pump probs.. Wake up VW!

The Toureag was cited as being the vehicle with the most problems reported (absolute bottom of the list, even below Suzuki) the first two years it was out. Strangely, the Porsche and Audio versions of that platform (Cayenne, Q7) do not appear that far down the list.

zfenderguy I absolutely died laughing about the window thing, THAT EXACT PROBLEM happened to me with my ’76 Rabbit and my brother with his 86 GTT AND my brother-in-law with his 98 Passat. Roll the window down, and SHUNK it somehow breaks loose from the cradle and falls inside the door. With my Rabbit it happened going over a speed bump, SHUNK-CRASH hmm, my window is gone or it is REALLY CLEAN…

Yep, not surprised here. My sister-in-law has owned 2 VW’s and they have been nothing but problems (Jetta and Tourag). I kept telling her to get a Passat if she wanted one because they at least have been pretty reliable. Oh well, I’m not paying for it! I like VW’s styling and interior quality, but won’t buy one.

andy, i would have to give alceuzito the ZR1 remark. Yes its a pretty well performing car, but for $100k it has no excuse to have such a poor interior. Even in the base $50k Vette that interior doesn’t really work that well.

yea but alceuzito the ZR1 also throws out 638hp, returns decent mpg, handles on par with most anything the fuhrer can throw at it.. so for one afternoon of diggin down deep into your couch cushions you can wrangle up enough change to put one in your drive way… people who choose folgers over starbucks have no excuse to not buy one

alceuzito, check reports from UK. They don’t mention VW anything as reliable. Wait, in Germany it Toyota/Lexus that is most reliable. We have enough our own blowhards like BuyUsa and Need more oil for GM to peddle the crap of their masters do we really need Krautz to peddle their crap? And lastly. the most reliable brand in VW group is Skoda, followed by Audi and all the way plugging the butt VW itself. Fershteise?

I know at least some are unreliable. I know because my 2007 GTI MKV has had more than it’s share of serious problems since buying it new early last year. I love the car more than anything else, but it has been prone to a faulty fuel injection system (4 days after purchase), and a new A/C unit (early last summer).

This is a German built unit (Wolfsburg) and not Mexican built, BTW.

Bullshit. I’ve never ever seen in another generic auto forum in Europe or another “normal” country such things. When a really crappy american car (and they are shit) fall of, you all hide’m under your bed. And because european cars are waaaaay better than yours (even ZR-1 has cheap interior, a $ 100.000 car!!), you just keep “inventing” these things.

Ah… So when other companies do their recalls, they do for other reasons. Only VW do for unreliability. C’mon… You Americans say VWs are unreliable only because ridiculously-biased J. D. Power tells you so. They say Kia is better than Audi, Mercedes and BMW, and you believe them. In Europe and in the rest of the World (you know there is a world outside, don’t you?) VWs were always known as reliable cars. Go check it out.

More of the same from VW. Looks great, performs great, loaded with features, but watch for stuff flying off at highway speed or that the window doesn’t come off and slide down into the door, never to be seen again. This is a more serious one though.
