The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has posted a < recall for a small number of 2012 Beetles. Exactly 83 were apparently fitted with the wrong tires, or ones that don't comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards, the NHTSA wrote.

Apparently, the summer tires fail to meet the 110 tire selection and rims as well as the 139 new pneumatic tires for light vehicles federal motor vehicle safety standards. This could lead to the tires becoming overloaded and/or underinflated, thereby increasing the chance of a crash.

VW will notify owners of affected vehicles and replace the tires for free.
