What is all this about passats. I own an 02 Passat with a 1.8t motor. What can i say. Its been a dream car to drive. My wife and I almost returned it in the days after our purchase, hearing for the first time all the horror stories about the dreaded 1.8t sludge issues. We kept it and are both so satisfied that we are ready to purchase a new one. If people would follow the recommended oil change instructions (synthetic), i dont think sludge would be an issue. Luckily i am mechanicly inclined, and do all my own work. I have recently replaced my timing belt at 80k, precautionary measure on any interference engine, and checked the oil pump for sludge. Non. Talk about asian cars, we purchase a brand new Honda civic for our daughter, two recalls have shown up since. Lets hear it for the almighty Honda. Not impressed. Dont want to make light of problems anyone has had, not fun im sure, but i dont think VW is any worse than any other car company out there. Good Luck to all

RLC – I couldn’t agree more. My ‘01 Passat has been a nightmare and VW reps are a joke. I’ve lost count of all the recalls. Just this past weekend I got the dreaded “stop engine immediately” message. So it’s in the shop again and I’m just waiting for the call. It’s the 1.8T so I have no doubts it’s oil sludge, only question is how bad. I’m fearing the worst because I’m been conditioned to as a VW owner. I only wish I would have unloaded this hunk of crap a year ago. Never again.

For anyone considering buying a this car, let me outline the Volkswagen ownership experience for you. First, you’ll deal with inept salespeople, who don’t know even basic things about the cars they sell. Once you take delivery of your new VW, you’ll take it to the twistiest road in town to see what it can do. You’ll be disappointed that it doesn’t live up to your expectations. In a couple of weeks you can expect to receive your first recall notice. This will give you some insight into another facet of VW’s shortcomings: their terrible service departments. Sometimes they fix problems on the first try. Usually it takes two or three visits. Sometimes, they break more than they fix. About now, anything made of plastic on your new VW will start breaking off in your hands: knobs, trim pieces, the dipstick handle. The entire interior door panel of my new GTI fell off in a parking lot when I opened the drivers door. At first, you’ll have these things fixed right away. But as more and more breaks, you’ll realize you can’t keep up. You’ll go months with a growing list of broken items, saving them up to be fixed with one trip to the service department. If they can be fixed with one trip. They won’t. By now, you will probably experience electrical or mechanical problems. Some of the things VW will cover under the warranty. Some they won’t. You’ll argue with the service departments, and they’ll give you an 800 number to call. Some cubicle worker at VW corporate will answer, but they’ll only be able to offer insincere apologies. You’ll start wishing you had your old used car back, the one you traded in on this new VW. Then you’ll sell your VW and never go back. Enjoy!

is it me or does it look like a last gen Accord mated with a new sebring?
i guess the grill is VW, it is pretty sleek, though, but I’m not diggin the back, a little too much going on for how sleek the rest of the car is

Very sleek and attractive VW, inside and out. I wish it were a 2 door coupe, or a true pillarless 4 door hardtop, though.

Volkswagen has a great concept and the CC is beautiful, but my biggest worry is US sales results of this car might wind up like the old Phaeton….nice but overpriced. As long there is Audi it will be very hard for Volkswagen to upscale the brand in the US….even to near-luxury.

The only thing that looks coupish is the back end… VW you can’t fool us its this is what the Passat should have been in the first place. But I wouldnt pay money for this, i would rather get me a a4 or a6

Unlike the Benz 4D-Coupe that this is trying to emulate, this vehicle does not pull off the “coupe” appearance. This just looks like a sort of sleek sedan. which a very large front end, ugly headlamps, and nebulously oversized and stylistically disconnected taillamps (they look like strange fish eyes to me). The roofline also does not tuck down well after the B pillar, and the back end has no presence.

Ugly as it is, to be sure, it’s a step up from teh current Passat, but I think they should just kill the current Passat and release this as its replacement.

carrerajh, you know- and I hate to admit it- but I’m kind of coming around on the whole 4 door coupe thing. Think back to your history because there isn’t really a good example today. From the 50’s to the 90’s just about every Detroit sedan also had a 2 door sibling which was correctly called a 2-door sedan because there were no changes to the roofline. So, I suppose, a 4 door with a non-formal roofline might be considered a coupe.

Not really sure why this is important because we all know it’s just another marketing ploy to try and distinguish the CC from the zillion other sedans out there. But hey, if it makes their customers happy thinking they’ve got something no one else has, well, whatever floats your boat.

This car reminds me of the mid 1990’s Ford Turus. Way too long on the back for a “coupe”. All in all, not a good sign.

This will be a piece of junk just like every other VW. You’d be a fool to buy this or any other car they make. You will regret it. I know I have every time mine is in the shop or another recall letter arrives in my mailbox.

I think this whole “4-door coupe” thing is retarded. Since when do coupes have more than 2 doors. Isn’t that what makes a coupe? Good looking car though.
