Actually it was two Aston Martin. This is a horrendous car for sure and its nice to see from the comments here that I am not the only one who is offended when function follows form, although its strange to see so much discontent from the USA, where they have been producing and buying "sports" variants of completely unsporting cars since the 80's. Camaro Z28 anyone, or perhaps a nice Caprice SS and of course the cream of the crop the wonderfully idiotic Cyclone.

Yes, just what we need, another vehicle with type r badging. I can't decide what's worse, GT, or type R. Just show's how lazy car companies are.

Oh yes. We have taken a vehicle which is designed to be high so it can cope with the rough stuff, but now we lower it again so we end up with something which now cannot handle the rough stuff but is still far too heavy to go fast on the road and isn't really that much more spacious than a normal sport saloon; someone please, please tell me the point in this, because I sure as hell can't find it.

ALL THAT WAS JUST ONE SENTENCE!!!!!

SUVs/crossovers/trucks and sports don't mix. It just encourages bad driving in overweight and oversized vehicles. But if it sells, then who am I to judge?

VW sux. But I have to admit, the car does not look half bad in the pic. In fact, I think it looks cool. It's awesome that they would even offer a manual trans in an SUV since that's almost unheard of in new suv's.
As for me, I like "droopy nose" styling. People have different tastes.

The negative reaction is not for the ergonomics of the vehicle, but for forth world craftsmanship that render it useless. Perhaps VWs are better in Europe, but all other automakers bypassed VW in quality and it stuck in 70s on US shores.

Absolutely agree with planet_drive about the seats. As much as I love sticking to dead cow in the summer and supporting Preperation H stock in the winter, give me a nicely contoured set of sport cloth seats anyday.

For the record, before someone calls me biased, I think the Torrent GXP and Vue Redline are stupid too. You don't need a pseudo-performance moniker to put a decent engine like the 3.6L in a crossover. The Equinox Sport I don't mind as much because it isn't "Equinox SS" or "Equinox Z??"

If VW offered the Tiguan R-Line in the states and gave it AWD/4WD and offered it both in a manual and automatic transmission. With either a TDI or straight 6 or more preferably their turbo 4, bumped up HP to 270hp-300hp and priced it in the 28k-33k this would be a winner.

I saw the tiguan at the LA show and it's by far the nicest small SUV out there. The rest are tin cans by comparison, and with the TDI it'll be more efficient as well. I agree about the name though, and a "sport" version is kinda silly.

I personally don't see anything wrong with this. I thought the Tiguan looked pretty good and this makes it look better. And now-a-days almost every auto manufacturer is offering a sport version of their small size SUV. Like the Saturn Vue Redline, Chevy Equinox Sport, and the Pontiac Torrent GXP. Although I've seen hardly any of the Equinox Sports or Torrent GXP's out on the road I see quite a bit VUE Redline's. But If I was in a market to buy one of these and the Tiguan R-Line wasn't outrageously more expensive I'd probably take one.

I love those seats! I don't understand why more car makers use sport fabric. I always order the optional leather only because it looks so much better than the fuzzy cloth that comes standard. But sport cloth looks the best and grips you in the seat unlike leather that causes you to slide around. And I think sport fabric looks alot better than leather.
