Karmann has built more than 600,000 Golf Cabriolets for Volkswagen over the past few decades, but the German automaker will reportedly pull its contract with Karmann starting in 2010. From 2010 onwards, VW plans to produce the Golf Cabrio in-house.
According to Germany’s Handelsblatt, VW will build its own Golf Cabrio starting with the next-generation car, but it remains unclear where the automaker will produce the new model.
Earlier this year, Audi announced that Karmann will no longer be building its A4 convertible, although Karmann will begin building the company’s A3 Cabrio later this year. Karmann has also recently inked a deal with BMW to produce its 1-series convertible through 2013.
