In order to keep pace with booming Chinese demand, Volkswagen announced on Thursday that it will add another Audi line to its joint venture plant in northeast China. In all, the added capacity is expected to cost the German automaker about $145 million.
The new assembly line will be capable of producing as many as 140,000 units a year, more than doubling the plant’s current capacity of 100,000 Audi vehicles annually. The new line is slated to begin production in the second half of next year with production of the Audi A4 and Q5, according to Automotive News.
The plant is operated in a venture with China’s FAW Group.
In 2007, China overtook the UK as Audi’s largest market outside of Germany with sales growing by 24.8 percent to 101,996 units.

By what math is 140,000 more than twice 100,000?

Not surprising, if you’ve been to China you’d see Audis everywhere. Which is a good thing in a Merc & Bimmer brain-washed global market.
