VW to market Passat CC simply as CC

Volkswagen unveiled its Passat CC four-door coupe during January’s Detroit International Auto Show, but VW has made some changes to the Passat CC since its unveiling. According to Volkswagen’s website, the Passat CC nameplate has been changed to the CC.

The name change is an apparent attempt to separate the CC from the lesser Passat and soon-to-be-released Phaeton.

The CC is scheduled to hit the market for the 2009 model year. When the CC arrives, it will be available with two engine options — a 2.0L turbo four diesel making 200 horsepower and a 3.6L gasoline V6 producing 300 horsepower.

The CC will be the first of a parade of models to use the four-door coupe first seen on the Mercedes-Benz CLS.

  2. When V.W. said it was going to produce they’re own version of a “4 door coupe” my first thought was………right-on! After seeing the car my first thought was…..W.T.F., it’s a bigger uglier Passat. There isn’t anything appealing about this car’s looks at all. What a waste of time, money & energy.

  11. Passat used to be a good car. Then new model came and now this. I don’t like the looks, bit others do. Those who like the way it looks may venture into it: very often looks sells the car not quality or performance characteristics.

  12. This whole “4 door coupe” thing is a crock of ****. It’s a sedan, and this is a marketing exercise. That aside, it doesn’t look bad. Although, I still to this day wonder why VW, owning Audi, borrowed so heavily from their front end?

  13. The current passat is a pos, my friend’s 3 year old passat’s engine blew up a few months ago. Unreliable POS

  15. “Although, I still to this day wonder why VW, owning Audi, borrowed so heavily from their front end?”

Audi started a revolution, IMHO. Look at the industry, and you can see how everything is beginning to adopt a similar form. And what’s with the headlights? Every car is taking on the same headlight shape.

It seems to me like no one is willing to take on their own design anymore. It’s all scanned into PhotoShop, cut, chopped, pasted, and turned into a conglomeration of typical styling lines. Sad. I wish I could speak more highly, but in this day and age paying these prices for cars, I think the designers could do a better job. I mean seriously, taking lines from a Prius and pasting them onto a Maxima? Pathetic.

    But I digress.

The Cubic Centimeter looks nice, but I think the Chili Crockpot needs to be a little more original in it’s design. It looks like an AudiCedesYotaMW.

I think CC is more code word for what no manufacturer wants their product to be associated with:

    COOKIE CUTTER!

  17. Affliction, I guess your friend doesn’t know how to drive it properly or take care of it. My wife’s Passat is 9 years old & other than a starter motor, radiator, & a tune up every year, she’s had no problems with it.

  18. I think it looks really nice, compared to a lot of other sedans. It sure looks better than the current Passat. I guess VW bashing is the new trend now?

  19. And CC would stand for, what exactly?

    Badass Z51 might be right.

  20. Because you’ll need your Credit Card to pay for the repairs on this Complete Crap? VW is just forewarning those fools who actually buy this over a much more reliable and stylish Pontiac G6 or Malibu. Have you Credit Card handy at all times, you’re gonna need it!

  21. Ain’t gonna sell well, VW.

A turd by any other name smells just as bad.

  22. Hey, not bad GM. Putting a little more effort in, that’s good. Probably didn’t need the third sentence though. I’d like to add that it leaves the door open for the CC Peniston special edition

  23. CLS Copy Cat. http://www.leftlanenews.com/volkswagen-passat-coupe-future.html#more-5545

VW keeps trying to go up market, but their reliability is horrible. They should stick to making cheap cars for the masses at the low end of the market where they belong.

  29. Why not simply market it as the Volkswagon Motor Works 6 series?

  30. Who the **** cares what you people say about it? These bogus stories you all hear are such retarded bs it’s ridiculous. Affliction, go hit puberty, learn that you’re 10 year old friend can’t ****ing drive, and get hit by one of these. And a pos G6 over this?? Sucking off Lutz aren’t ya buddy. And last I checked the Malibu can’t even make a tiny ass dent in Camry/Accord sales so what makes you think it would touch this? Two different cars, two different leagues. This beaut would be on the same playing field as an Acura or Infiniti not some ****ty Pontiac or Chevy. Shoulda said the CTS because that is a nice car. Otherwise, sales may not make records, nor will they even come close but maybe it’s what VW needs. A new entry in a new segment and get a headstart and, despite the many told lies about reliability, prove to you idiots they make great cars with world class interiors.

  31. The whole calling 4 door sedans ‘coupes’ because the roofline is lower is just ridiculous. Nothing about this car says ‘coupe’ to me. Nice looking sedan though. They should’ve just replaced the Passat with this and been done with it. Volkswagen, at this moment in time, seriously has to have the dumbest car names in history.
