What A4 said! I’d love a micro hot hatch with the 1.4L Twincharger (168 HP) and DSG, which is apparently what the Euro version will have.

But I’m doubtful we’ll get it. “A cross between a compact minivan and a hatchback” doesn’t sound promising in the weight department, throwing away the key hot hatch value prop.

I don’t want to see it grow any larger. I want to see it how it was at the Frankfurt show. Why offer a sedan? They are such goofy, dorky looking things, I don’t understand why people even consider buying one.

Raineman, I agree with you, this polo could be the size of a early 90s golf. Anyway, people would be complaining about the size of the Geneva polo if we got it cause it’s too small.

jake, i think what Borat was gettin at was many times in the past VW has made plans to move forward and be dominate, and for the most part none of those plans have panned out to work. However, i do agree VW seems to be plying their cards right this time around. I do think it’s stupid to make this bigger for the US market tho. do they not understand SUB compact. making it bigger is gonna put is where people will wonder why get this when i can get a rabbit/golf ? keep it at its size and go forward. not every american is so big that they cant fit in a small sub compact model. people are doin just fine in the Yaris and in hatch form its pretty small.

I agree with JakeK66: VW is on the move. They might not be the top dog now, but they have major aspirations to be. Those aspirations seemed to be backed up with some solid product plans. If they can conquer their reliability issues (which I hope they are working on as diligently as their product plans), then they could place themselves in a position to take the lead in the auto industry.

I wouldn’t have said this five years ago, but VW and Hyundai/Kia seem to be the 2 automakers to be wary of now. Both of them seem to be really ambitious and appear to have the product plans in place to make things happen. How drastically the times have changed.

Jake, those a re plans and insofar most of VW plans did not pan out. If Polo will be build in Mexico it will be of quality of other VW product. What did VW sell: 200K Rabbits last year? They are not dominating anything in US; except Audi is doing well. Perhaps Audi doing well ’cause their vehicles are build to higher quality standards in Europe.

VW is coming full steam ahead to become a dominate force in the US landscape. They will be pried more competitively as well as have more diverse product line than any other time in recent memory.

I once predicted a couple years ago that VW would be the first to leave the US market as they had a very small product lineup and no real future products for the US market with the cancellation of the Minibus.

This is better looking than anything else that will be in its class, but I still wouldn’t buy any of them. They are too damn small! I don’t see how anyone functions in one of these unless they are a kid or 60 years old and retired. Having a kid and trying to go grocery shopping makes these things useless…
