They're thinking ahead instead of reacting to short term price fluctuations in diesel fuel the way Ford is. If diesel prices drop to below gas (the way it normally is and has been for most of the last 100 years), VW will look like heroes with a full diesel lineup, and Ford will be caught with their pants down once again. New product lead time is typically 3-4 years. A lot can happen to fuel prices in that time. Probably a smart move on VW’s part. They’re thinking ahead instead of reacting to short term price fluctuations in diesel fuel the way Ford is.
