VW transport truck crashes into San Diego Bay

If you live in Los Angeles and ordered a brand new Volkswagen to kick off the new year, you might have to wait a little longer to take delivery of your new baby. That's because on Saturday night the driver of a VW transport truck bound for L.A. blacked out — due to what officials are calling "some kind of medical emergency" — and drove the truck into the San Diego Bay at a marine terminal in National City.

The driver reportedly came to after being submerged in the water and swam about 13 feet to the surface, where he was helped onto land by dock workers. The driver was taken to a local hospital in good condition.

The same can't be said for the VWs that were in transit. While only three of the vehicles actually made it into the bay, the position of the trailer suggested that the others didn't escape without damage.

Now the real question: How many of these will be patched up and sold at first price without informing the buyers what happened?

  13. Hahaha………………uuuh NO
If it were a GM truck it would have been better for the american consumer bc they are dangerous unreliable POS's that are better off in the junkyard.

  15. I see tripleonefive still hasnt worked through his anger and hatred of GM with his psychiatrist. I still think a GM car or truck ran over his foot as a kid or his dad or puppy or something. That guy has issues.

I also find it interesting how many people find humor in this story. Unbelievable.

  16. tripledumbass, I don't think it was a GM truck, I think it was a Kenworth. Retard. Those are American made though.

  17. jackdev73, you're right, there are several people here and on many other boards that have issues! The fact that the internet affords them an immortal feeling that they are untouchable and they can say anything they want when in real life they would be afraid to say to someone's face. Sad really. The anti GM thing is just the self loathing, America Sucks diatribe the liberal media and schools are teaching our kids. If this continues, our country is in serious trouble.

  19. 1115: I question your authority with these weirdo comments. considering I'm a big fanatic on japanese sports cars, look at GM has done to themselves. they've actually payed attention to their customers by releasing products that aren't behind competition. I think they should have a good future for themselves within a few years.

  20. Well, those cars can not be recalled. There are some good news in it for VW.

  21. The best part is VW will now need to submit these to their warranty department and will now learn the hard way the living hell that VW makes out of the lives of those stupid enough to buy a VW and subject themselves to such torture.

Really doesn't matter, though. Whether they go into the shop for major repairs with zero miles or 120 miles after the proud new foolish owner drives off the lot is of no consequence. Either way the VW quickly realizes its lifelong destiny of being caged in a dealership while the sorry owner pisses and moans about being duped into buying such garbage. "Fahrvergnügen" gilt eigentlich nur wenn man in der Tat fahren kann, oder?

  22. Hmmm what a waste of money..its not as if Passatts are cheap. Oh and for 2008, I will make a new years resolution and ignore the troll that is 1115. He is worse than GM_Sales…at least you got a laugh with him

  23. Haha jackdev73 - you are 100% right too. That explains everything.

CA36GTP - yes, that is pretty much his whole life. Notice how he tried to turn a silly, totally non-GM related post into….something (negative of course) about GM.

1115 - read Htay9500's post. He likes Japanese [sports] cars (I like the Supra, MR2, and GT-R), but he is still open minded enough to see that GM is doing great so why don't you? I recommend that you make "don't be so stubborn" YOUR New Year's resolution.

  24. If GM proves they are reliable and they have a car that performs and looks better than the Competition then I may consider them but I doubt that will happen

Comment by tripleonefive, posted on December31 at 6:34 pm
  25. ^make it a new years resolution to get a life. you're even worse than GMloser/ z06ified/ lamboz get a life/ Cletus36GTP.

  26. Thank you truck driver for pretending to black out and getting rid of those piles of crap.

  27. Wow. You people are arguing Japanese versus American when the article is about a German car. But to get in on the fun… GM is on the rise, rather quickly, but it's not like every model is there (G6, Impala, Lucerne, LaCrosse, etc.) If anyone is in serious shit it's Ford. Now those are grade A POS's. I even see a bright spot with the hirings Chrysler has made. Hopefully they act on them. If not, they're just wasting time and money.

  32. I'm sittin' on the dock of the San Diego Bay

Watching the VW's roll away

Ooo, I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay

    Wastin' time
    .

I left my drop in San Diego

Headed for Downtown L.A.

'Cause I've had nothing to live for

And look like nothin's gonna come my way
    .

So I'm just gonna sit on the dock of the San Diego Bay

Watching the VW's roll away

Ooo, I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay

    Wastin' time

    .
    Look like nothing's gonna change

    Everything still remains the same

I can't do what ten people tell me to do

So I guess I'll remain the same, yes

    .
    Sittin' here resting my bones

And this medical emergency won't leave me alone

It's twenty miles I roamed

Just to make this dock my home

    .
Now, I'm just gonna sit at the dock of the San Diego Bay

    Watching the VW's roll away

Oooo-wee, sittin' on the dock of the bay

Wastin' time

  34. I Dunno why so many people seem to be against Vdub? Have any of you actually driven or been in or OWNED the new Passatt for example? Drive the equivalent from any US or Japanese manufacturer and then make comparisons. The Passatt is leagues ahead if you consider, space, quality, equipment, handling, ride, performance, economy, safety, styling, resale value and technology a priority. If these things mean nothing to you then I guess you're happy with your camry's

  39. This shit would happen while I'm out of the country.

“’some kind of medical emergency.’” — Like maybe he ran out of meth?

    1115: How’s that lawsuit going?

jackdev73: I have a theory on 1115’s GM hatred. Look it up if you wish.

ambalanche: don’t be fooled. There is no “liberal media.” There are the corporate-run media, which go for the safest route.

deantj: that’s a classic, e-mail me an mp3 of it!

Rover3500: I like the Euro-market passat, haven’t driven one here.

  40. One truckload full of Volkswagens in the ocean is a good start.

Rover3500 - People hate VWs because they're crappy cars. They're poorly built out of flimsy materials that break off in your hand. My four-year-old GTI has had major electrical problems, engine problems, transmission problems and more pieces that have fallen off than I can count. The sales people I dealt with were idiots, and the many VW service departments I have taken the car to (and I have taken it in A LOT) were useless. I know I'm not the only one that has been burned by VW. There's a good reason why they're always at the bottom of the JD Powers initial quality list. They're currently second from the bottom.

As soon as I can scrape together a down payment, I'm dumping my piece of crap VW and I'll never be back.
