And Borat, the Golf TDI for US shores has the exact same engine ouf of the Jetta TDI. Don’t expect it to burn a GTI. The GTD is significantly slower than the GTI (albeit a perfect diesel alternative) and we arent going to see any diesel Golf that fast for a while on our side of the pond.

DenverGuy, go look at the power specs for a Prius and get back to us. 105 hp with a buttload of torque is enough power for any Prius driver, and there seem to be enough of those… people.

Why can’t Americans be content with underpowered cars and let great cars like these come to the stateside? I guarantee if VW put enough enough promotion behind these and present them in the right way by comparing them to stupid Hybrids and the dismal gas millage most of them get. Plus the name “Bluemotion” sounds ultra cool

idrinorbarsaku, I read in Road and Track that next year there will be Golf TDI comparable in “stuffing” to GTI. Even better news that you don’t have to pee into tank to have it run clean. With 2.0L diesel it will crank only 140 ponies but well over 230 lbs of torque (more then 2.0L GTI). You can pull a boat or hefty mother in law.

DenverGuy, don’t worry about ponies. This puppy has gobbles of torque. You probably do not intend to drive it at over 100 mph and that is the only time when all horses are working. Normally from 1200 RPM you will get torque of either “old” 1.8L turbo 4 (wasn’t all that bad, was it?) or even smalllish V6. If you go downhill, you don’t horses at all

I’m not positive, but I don’t think the Common Rail Diesels loose much power at altitude. Not to mention that it probably has 230+ lb/ft of torque.

And orange cones, they ditched the Rabbit name already.

I wonder if they are rated for B20…

While mountain driving may not be these cars strong suit. The diesels will be plenty of engine for most. They don’t list the torque that make these cars more driveable.

You have to remember that it was a few years ago that 200 HP was considered serious sports car territory.
